Varsity Football Improves to 4-1 on the Season, 1-1 in the District with Win Over Cy Creek

Varsity football improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in district with a Saturday win over Cy Creek. The final score was 45-42, with Giancarlo Chelala's game-winning field goal breaking a tie game with 1:00 left. Luke Rives' 42-yd kickoff return placed the Spartans in favorable field position leading up to the field goal. The following series, Stratford's defense forced and recovered a Cy Creek fumble with 30 seconds left to seal the win.

Nash Rankin completed 21 of 27 passes for 252 yards. Multiple receivers participated, with Hawkins Polley contributing 101 of the receiving yards, followed by Jake Brand for 87 yards. Dallas Payne led an exciting ground game with 167 rushing yards. Additional rushing yards were added by Deon Walker and Javi Denson. Stratford's touchdowns were scored by Dallas Payne (3), Jake Brand (1), and Hawkins Polley (2).

Defensively, Braxton Wakefield led the defense with 17 tackles, followed by Cooper King (16) and Cullen Devine (10). The defensive line added pressure to the Cy Creek offense, creating 4 sacks and 2 fumbles. Jared Botary, Austin Larue, Cooper Kemp, Cullen Devine, and Jack Stewart contributed to this effort.

The Spartans' next contest is Thursday at 6:30, at Tully Stadium versus Northbrook.
