Domination aptly describes the JV-A boys’ performance this week in a pair of 4-1 victories to bring the team’s district record to 4-2-2, as the Spartans wrapped up the first round of district games on Tuesday and began the second round on Friday.  On Tuesday, the Spartans dominated the Northbrook Raiders from start to finish, unleashing a torrential wave of scoring opportunities throughout the game.  Ricky Estrada got the scoring going mid-way through the first half and co-captain Bennett Swires converted a penalty kick to extend the lead to 2-0.  Northbrook trimmed the lead to 2-1 fifteen minutes into the second half and were pressing for the equalizer when Swires again found the net on a nifty low ball of a direct kick to extend the lead to two goals, and Fabu Ndayishimye chased down a ball that was deflected off of the referee and into an open net to secure the final score in the 4-1 victory.

The Spartans entered Friday against Cy-Fair seeking revenge after losing a nail biter 4-3 to the Bobcats earlier in the season. The game started off slowly for the first 25 minutes, with neither team able to find the back of the net. Despite being scoreless thus far, the Spartans moved the ball well and were rewarded with about five minutes left in the first half. Bennett Swires took the ball along the end line with great technical skill before laying it off to Timothy Muchira for the tap-in finish. The Spartans kept up their high pressure and scored once again, with Luke Hammer finding the back of the net just before the end of the half. The Spartans were in control for the rest of the game, and the back line stayed strong, keeping the Bobcats away from the attacking third. Rodolfo Moncada had a good run midway through the second half and was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. He converted confidently, burying the ball in the bottom right corner, away from the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper. Luke Hammer followed that up with a beautiful goal to seal the game, a shot that curled top right, giving the keeper absolutely no chance. The Spartans were able to relax after taking a four-goal lead but conceded a goal late in the game in the 4-1 victory.

In back-to-back 4-1 wins this past week, the Spartans are demonstrating their continued improvement after a slow start to the season and playing by far their best soccer of the season and will be looking to improve on their 4-2-2 district record this week.
