The JV-A boys closed out the season with their final two games just before spring break and secured a winning record at 6-5-3, as they split the final two games of the season. After losing to Jersey Village 3-1 at Tully on Tuesday to bring their record to an even .500, the Spartans dominated Northbrook on the road, scoring early and often in a 3-0 season-ending victory on the road in frigid and windy conditions.

Boys JV Soccer Weekly Update February 28th

The JV-A boys lost 2-1 on the road at Cy-Ridge on a last minute goal and battle Spring Woods to a tie at home this week. The Cy-Ridge game started out as a defensive battle as the teams went into the half scoreless.  Midway through the second half, Cy-Ridge converted on a scoring opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.  Down with 10 minutes to play, the Spartans pressed offensively and were able to tie the game 1-1 as a ball in traffic in front of the Cy-Ridge goal deflected off of a Cy-Ridge defender and into the net. Lady luck was not on the Spartans’ side, as a phantom foul was called on the Spartans with two minutes to play and Cy-Ridge converted the direct kick for a score and a 2-1 victory.

The Spartans responded from the deflating loss on Tuesday with a hard-fought tie against Spring Woods at home. After being down 1-0 the half, the Spartans played a strong offensive half with many scoring opportunities, finally converting on a penalty kick by Bennett Swires to tie the match 1-1 with eight minutes to play. The Spartans held momentum and nearly scored the winner in the last 30 seconds of play on a nice run from the defensive half, but, alas, the tie was all the Spartans were able to deliver.
