Stratford JV Women’s Soccer Team Vs. Deer Park High School

Deer Park High School had no chance Friday night against the JV Spartans. The Spartans utilized patient choreographed footwork and fine-tuned passing. The Spartans out maneuvered Deer Park and overhauled their guest with a 3-0 win.

Bre Blaylock kicked off the evening with a cross shot into the goal. An impressive header from Brooke McAfee over a pack of deer heads had Claire Lamon waiting on the other side to put it away in the net. Events leading up to the third goal were intense, as Elizabeth Byrd fought hard to keep the ball as a Deer Park defenders held on aggressively, invading her ribs and pushing her arms. She never lost her balance or the ball as she made her way toward the net with a scintillating goal.

Collectively our defense were work horses with notable performances from Bella Lester and goalie, Oliva Harbison. Bella, always there waiting like a patient Barracuda, taking the ball with a few turns of the ankle and would appear out of nowhere to deflect Deer Park’s throw- ins. Harbison, the reliable leader on all fronts, encouraged the team with a strong voice that rivals her “get the ball outta here ” leg. She consistently stopped every attempted goal with ease.

This team gets better and better each game. Can’t wait to see what they can do next week.
