Lady Spartan JV Soccer Update - March 21st

By Teya Miller 03/22/2022, 7:45am CDT

Like the birds flying above Jersey Village stadium,  JV Spartans took to their triangle positions- with fluidity and tactical acumen in their zones that gave few chances of ball possession for the Falcons. Their moving parts call to mind the turning of the kaleidoscope, evolving with each stop and turn and revealing their true color of “never give up” mindset even with a comfortable lead. Our colorful Coach Gusart and his high value on unity is evident in the way JV fights for each other on the pitch and how they enjoy each other off the pitch. His love for the game and his players reflect the best part of their individuality and as a team.

And in the spirit of great coaches and The Irish, “You’ve got to make a sincere attempt to have the right goal to begin with, then go after them with appropriate effort, and remember that you can’t really achieve anything without the help of others” Lou Holtz

Tis’ Spartan goal achieving breakdown:

With a stellar assist from Gracie Howard, Elizabeth Bryd busted a move and got us in the score making groove.

Purple lost the ball and seemed a bit stunned as Gracie Howard picked it up and launched it in the right corner as the goalie plunged

Cassidy Syamken up the middle with a shamrockin’ strike, put the gold in the pot for the third goal of the night.  This wasn’t counted by a referee’s call, but this eye-popping play was too good not to mention at all.

Kate Michael’s ” fly me to the moon” penalty kick bent the light and added the third goal of the night.

Brooke McAfee big diagonal rip, made the ball transcend and shut out the lights to bring the game to the end

Fitting it seems, blue and yellow make green.  Bold bicolor support for the people 6000 miles away, we hope one day for your freedom to play.  Spartans, you are all the hues that make a beautiful light, go illuminate the world and keep up the good fight.  Let’s go Green!

Thank you to all the parents and fans who supported the JV Team this season.  It was a great run!

The future of Spartan soccer is bright!

Lady Spartan JV Soccer Update - March 7th

By Susan Byrd 03/09/2022, 4:00pm CST

JV Women’s Soccer vs. Memorial

The Spartans shook off winter as they took their place on the Mustang’s field and lit the night up with premium gas in their tanks.  And like their namesake, they excelled in teamwork, coordination, and whipped up determination for this fast-paced nail biting “get off your keister” game.

Memorial made the first goal with the Spartans quickly tying it up in the first half with a spectacular passing sequence of 8 resulting in a goal from the foot of Rachel Ashby with assist by Cassidy Smayken. Unfortunately, Memorial pulled out the win in the last 57 seconds of the game when a deflected ball ricocheted off a defender into Stratford’s’ goal.

The scoreboard gave us a loss but Spartans looked like the more cohesive team Tuesday with more attempts at the goal and more time with the ball. There were many wave your flag moments with great stops by goalie Erica Eastman.  Midfielder Smayken was like “knight in shining armor '', giving it all to catch the ball and creating plays for her team. With trust as her glue, Blaylock’s generosity with her passes were consistently completed with stereoscopic vision.

It’s easy to get swept up in Hannah Haygood’s relationship with the ball she can lure her defender in and back kick it to the right flank or send the ball through her defenders’ feet to pick it back up on the other side.

Elizabeth Byrd, Rachel Ashby, Gracie Howard and Megan Hallmark showed us the beautiful intricacies of soccer with their ability to pass short and long, ground balls and air balls using the full width of the striking zone with strong attempts at the 452 square feet of net

Kate Michaels, and Leyla Walker were the touchstones throughout the game with their long-range balls, they consistently shut down the Mustangs opportunities and put the ball back in play in their zone.

Overall, JV Spartans makes us feel pride and forces us to find our own flag to wave.

We will keep them proudly waving into the spring.  Forever Spartans!
