STRATFORD DOMINATES CY FAIR
Final Home Game is 11-0 Blowout
On Tuesday the Cy Fair Bobcats, often an object of some resistance for the Spartans, were mowed over like so many Eagles, Falcons and other sundry beasts of nominal consequence.
Brynn Teixeira and Jackie Gronauer each pitched two innings and combined for a 1-hit shutout, striking out 7 and walking 2. They were assisted by two defensive gems – one by Isla Hildebrand, who took advantage of a stint at shortstop to spear a missile with two runners on base – the other by Sophia Lozada, who tracked down a fly ball in center field.
Credit the Cy Fair pitching, which was able to fire balls into the zone and give the Spartans the opportunity to hit. And hit they did. Triples were mashed by Anna Burgman and Leila Vazquez (each of whom also contributed a single). Azalea Moreno and Keely Meeks delivered doubles. And Teixeira singled to help the cause.
STRATFORD BLUDGEONS CY FALLS
Spartans’ Streak of Brutality Continues With 8-1 Victory
On Friday the Spartans traveled to Cy Falls to continue their 4-game campaign of savagery in which they have outscored their opponents 48-3.
Keely Meeks started the game in the circle, pitching an uneven first inning but allowing only a solitary run. Emerson Hiler hurled the last two, drowning the Eagles in strikes while fanning 3 without a walk. In the final inning, Stratford converted three ground-ball outs, two by Hiler and one by Jackie Gronauer at second, with Emily Garza and Allie Richardson on the receiving ends.
The Spartans racked up 7 hits, 2 by Azalea Moreno and 1 each by Kellyn Schuchardt, Leila Vazquez, Keely Meeks, Kenna Wong, and Nikki Hodge.
