Stratford Sophomore Spartans vs. Cy Fair Sophomore Bobcats, Wednesday, April 2nd
Despite a gutsy pitching performance by starter Noah Kerr, the Sophomore Spartans couldn’t quite finish with the win against Cy Fair. The pitching on both teams was solid and stalled offensive attempts until the bottom of the 4th inning when a walk by Nate Sandidge, single by Kerr, and finally a line drive to center field by Connor Roe scored 2 runs for Stratford. For most of the game, the score remained Stratford 2 and Cy Fair 0, but a late surge by Cy Fair in the 6th and 7th innings had them scoring 3 runs to win the contest. Offensively, Stratford bested Cy Fair with 9 hits to only 5 by Cy Fair, but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough. Nearly the whole team got in on the batting action when Clay Emery, Callen Corley, Kerr, Roe (x2), Jackson Fleming, Carlos Perez (x2), and Peter Banks all recorded hits. The pitching by Kerr was special as he pitched 5 and 2/3 innings (99 pitches) and recorded only 4 hits, 1 run (0 earned), 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. Hudson Good came on in relief for 1 and 1/3 innings. Final score was Stratford 2 and Cy Fair 3.

Game two of the double header against Cy Fair ended with a big win for the Stratford Sophomores, thanks to clutch hitting and dominant pitching. Both teams remained scoreless through 3, including an impressive 9 up and 9 down from Stratford starting pitcher, Jackson Seel. Despite a slow start, the Stratford offense caught fire in the 4th inning scoring 7 runs! A single to left field by Hudson Good, followed by a single to right field by Westy Bennett, and a walk by Lance Picott loaded the bases for a clutch hit by Gus Green to score one run. With the bases still loaded, Luke Carl singles to center field scoring 2 more runs. The scoring continued when Andrew Williams hustles to first and reached on an error by the Cy Fair short stop, scoring another run. Then a Seel walk loaded the bases again for teammate Good, who got his second hit in the 4th inning, scoring 2 additional runs. At this point, the score was Stratford 7 and Cy Fair 0.
Cy Fair responded in the bottom of the 5th, when they finally managed to connect off of Seel and score 2 runs. This was the only time the Cy Fair offense was effective, however. The same cannot be said for Stratford, who stayed hot in the bottom of the 5th, scoring 3 more runs. The inning began with a double by Joel Torres when he hit a deep fly ball to center field. Then there were two walks by Picott and Green, and a wild pitch scored Torres. With runners on base, Carl hits a double on a line drive to left field scoring a run. Carl led Stratford with 3 runs batted in and Good, Torres, and Carl each collected two hits a piece. Finally, Andrew Williams grounded out but scored in Green. After the 5th inning, the score was Stratford 10 and Cy Fair 2. This would serve as the final score for the game. Jackson Seel earned the win for the Sophomore Spartans, allowing only 2 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings, striking out 7, and walking 3. Jack Lasseigne threw one inning of scoreless ball in relief.
Stratford Sophomores are now 6-1 in District play and visit Cy Falls on Wednesday, April 9th.
