Varsity Softball Gets Big Wins Against Northbrook, Jersey Village

The Spartans picked up 2 more District wins this week against Northbrook and Jersey Village, bringing their District play record to 8-2 and currently tied with Memorial for 2nd place in District behind Cy Fair. This week they take on Cy Fair at home on Tuesday, their last District home game, and play away at Cy Falls on Friday. Senior Night took place on Friday, and we enjoyed celebrating Allison Hibbetts, Darcy Broaddus and Cacey Valencia!

 

vs. Northbrook – Win (15-3)

The Raiders did not stand a chance as the Spartans made a short night of it, picking up a run-rule in 4 innings. Their bats were HOT, tallying up a total of 16 hits. Stratford put 3 runs up in the top of the first inning from a leadoff single by Brooklyn Marks, followed by another single by Gwyn Katterhenry, a triple by Layla Yslas, scoring 2 runs, and a sacrifice fly by Allison Hibbetts. After a quick 1-2-3 half-inning, the Spartans were on the board again adding 6 runs from back-to-back singles by Elizabeth McGuire and Sophie Donnel, a walk by Marks, and two sacrifice flies by Katterhenry and HibbettsAashna Kapoor picked up a single, Marielle Kiersh hit a double, followed by two more singles by McGuire and Shelby Thibodeaux. After another 1-2-3 half-inning, Stratford was back at bat, adding 1 more run from a single by Marks and a sacrifice fly by Yslas, bringing the score to 10-0.

Northbrook gave a little trouble, picking up 3 runs all on 2 outs in the bottom of the third inning. Stratford answered back with 5 more runs in the top of the 5th inning by on onslaught of 4 doubles by McGuire, Yslas, Ava Esparza, and Kiersh, topped off with a single by KapoorKatterhenry and Kiersh worked together to complete the run-rule in 4 innings, keeping Northbrook to 3 hits and striking out a total of 5.

vs. Jersey Village – Win (16-1)

Allison Hibbetts put on a show on Senior Night, leading the offense with 5 RBIs. Jersey Village put up one run on the board in the top of the first, and it would be their only run of the evening. Stratford tied it up in the bottom of the first with one run from singles by Gwyn Katterhenry and Hibbetts, picking up her first RBI. Stratford added 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Shelby Thibodeaux was hit by a pitch, and Elizabeth McGuire hit a double. Sophie Donnel and Brooklyn Marks followed that up with back-to-back doubles, and Hibbetts hit a sacrifice fly. After another scoreless inning by JV, the Spartans put on a show putting up 11 runs, yes 11 runs, in the bottom of the third to secure the run-rule. McGuire, Marks, and Katterhenry hit singles, and then Hibbetts hit a line drive BOMB over the centerfield fence. The Spartans capitalized on walks drawn by Aashna Kapoor, Darcy Broaddus, and Marks, while Katterhenry picked up a triple, and Cacey Valencia hit a single. Katterhenry pitched 3 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run and picking up 3Ks.
