Stratford @ Jersey Village – Wednesday, March 26th

The JV Spartans traveled to Jersey Village last week as District play continued. Jack Hope got the call in the first game on the mound and provided another dominant performance, tossing 4 innings, allowing 0 earned runs on 2 hits with 6 Ks. The Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Luke Szilagyi (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R's) and Liam Shultz (2-3, 3 RBI, 2 R’s) were the spark plugs for the offense. Schultz hit a sharp fly ball to right field that got away from the right fielder. He showed off his wheels and would motor home for a bases-clearing, inside-the-park home run. The defense was solid once again, and Levi Lease (1 IP, 0 H, 0R) came in to shut the door on the Falcons in the final inning to preserve the 7-1 victory.

The nightcap brought more of the same, as Stratford proved to be too much for Jersey Village to handle. The Spartans tallied 12 hits and scored 14 runs, led by Jack Sullivan (2-4, 2 RBI’s, 3 R’s) and Luke Szilagyi (3-4, 3 RBI’s, R, 2 SB’s). Liam Shultz (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 K’s), John Nugent (1.0 IP, 0 R, 2 K’s) and the defense took care of the rest as the Spartans would win 14-1 and improve their District record to 5-1.

The competition finally stiffens next week as Stratford travels to Cy Fair Wednesday night for another doubleheader.
