The Spartans went 1-1 this week in District play, and currently are 6-2 in District, putting us in 3rd place...the Spartans are leading the District in RUNS SCORED!! They lost a heartbreaker against Memorial on Tuesday and picked up a much-needed win against Cy Creek on Saturday as they hosted SBMSA softball girls! They look to pick up another two wins this week against Northbrook and Jersey Village. Senior Night is this Friday, April 4th!

vs Memorial – Loss (2-5)

It was a tight game through the 4th inning as both teams remained scoreless in this intense rivalry game. Both teams brought their A games on defense, putting on a show of some spectacular defensive plays. Memorial got on the board first from a 2-out walk, with a run scoring on a hit to centerfield. They added 3 more runs to their lead, capitalizing on a couple of errors by Stratford and stacking a couple of hits back-to-back. Shelby Thibodeaux got us one run back with a solo HOMERUN in the 5th inning. Memorial picked up one more run in the 6th. Stratford held Memorial in the top of the 7th, and made them sweat in the bottom of the last inning. Ava Esparza singled, Kate SanAntonio got on via fielder’s choice, and Brooklyn Marks doubled, scoring one run, bringing the score to 2-5. With one out and 2 runners on, Stratford was unable to score. It was a bitter ending to a VERY hard-fought game. Memorial hitters seemed to find our holes. Stratford had some fantastic offense, which was shut down by some tremendous defense by Memorial…until next time, Memorial!! Katterhenry pitched 7 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, while striking out 4.

Offensive Highlights (6 Hits total):

  • Singles: Esparza, Hibbetts, Kiersh, Marks
  • Doubles: Marks
  • HOMERUNS: Thibodeaux

Defensive Highlights:

Katterhenry: 7IP, 9H, 5R, 3ER, 4K

vs Cy Creek – Win (7-3)

After a Friday night rain out, Cy Creek came out swinging on Saturday morning, putting up 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Spartans were able to get 2 runs back after Aashna Kapoor picked up 2 RBIs from Layla Yslas and Allison Hibbetts, who both drew walks on 2 outs. Cy Creek was shut out in the 2nd inning, and Stratford was able to even the score when Shelby Thibodeaux hit a double and crossed the plate from a Brooklyn Marks double to centerfield. After a quick scoreless 3rd inning for Cy Creek, Stratford picked up one run to gain the lead from singles by Hibbetts and Marielle Kiersh, and Elizabeth McGuire picked up an RBI by hitting in Hibbetts. Cy Creek went 1-2-3 in the top of the 4th inning, Stratford added 3 more to extend the lead to 7-3 from another Marks double, a Gwyn Katterhenry sacrifice bunt, a 2-run BOMB by Yslas, a single by Hibbetts, a sacrifice bunt by Kapoorand another single by Kiersh. No more runs were scored by either team. Cy Creek did well to get out of a bases-load, no-out situation with no runs in the 6th inning. Katterhenry pitched a complete 7 innings, giving up 3 hits, 0 earned runs, and racking up 5Ks.
