Varsity at Prairie View A&M, 3/22

Varsity competed in their last regular season meet before District begins next week. The Spartans were a little short-handed without their distance runners, who were competing at a meet in Dallas. The coaches took the opportunity to try new line ups in the relays and let some athletes try different events. Senior Aaron DeLeon and Junior Davis Kendall took 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the 100m finals. Continuing his dominating season, Senior Kenneth Owen took his usual spot on top of the podium in high jump.

Texas Distance Festival, 3/22

Many of the Stratford distance runners made the trip to Dallas this weekend to compete in the Texas Distance Festival. Runners from across Texas and surrounding states came to race in one of the premier high school distance events in the nation. Despite gusting winds, making race conditions challenging, several Stratford runners had standout performances. Senior Ben Pearce raced in the elite heat of the 1600, placing in the top 10 out of over 600 runners with a time of 4:14. Freshman Emmett Odom had a huge breakthrough, dipping under the 5-minute barrier for the first time.
