Varsity Softball 3-1 in District Play So Far

The Spartans went 1-1 this week with a win against Jersey Village and a tough loss against Cy Fair on Friday. They are off to a great start and are currently 3-1 in District play.

 

vs. Jersey Village – Win (17-5)

The bats were HOT on Tuesday, as the Spartans run-ruled Jersey Village in 5 innings. The Spartans put 2 runs on the board in the first inning after Brooklyn Marks doubled and Layla Yslas hit a 2-run shot over the centerfield wall! Jersey Village answered back with one run in the bottom of the 1st, and both teams were scoreless in the 2nd inning. Stratford put up 3 runs each in the 3rd and 4th innings with an offensive onslaught driven by an Yslas double, an Allison Hibbetts BOMB, a double by Gwyn Katterhenry, and another double by Marks. The score was 8-1 going into the bottom of the 4th, and Jersey Village managed to put up 4 runs. No worries there, as Stratford put NINE, yes, 9! runs on the board in the 5th inning from a leadoff single by Shelby Thibodeaux, followed by 6 consecutive singles by Callie Piercy, Marks, Yslas, Hibbetts, Aashna Kapoorand Marielle Kiersh. The rally ended with the bang of a 3-run BOMB by ThibodeauxKatterhenry pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and 3 ER, and striking out 6.

vs. Cy-Fair – Loss (1-7)

After a scoreless first inning, Stratford got on the board first with 1 run in the 2nd inning after a single by Gwyn Katterhenry and an RBI single by Alessia Avalos. Both teams were scoreless in the 3rd and 4th innings, and Stratford was unable to score in the top of the 5th inning. After a leadoff strikeout, Cy Fair scraped together 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th from a couple of errors, a couple of walks, and a couple of hits. They scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th. The score does not reflect how tight a game that it was. In total, the Spartan pitching staff kept Cy Fair to only 3 hits…Cy Fair was coming off of a 13-0 shutout against Memorial, where they had 14 hits. Katterhenry took the loss for the Spartans, throwing 4.1 innings, giving up 0 earned runs and getting 9Ks. Aashna Kapoor came in relief in the 5th inning, and Marielle Kiersh closed out the 6th inning.
