vs. Cy Fair

On Wednesday, the JV Girls played Cy Fair for the second time. The girls worked to move the ball around, maintaining possession, but seemed to struggle finding the net. After about 10 minutes of play, the ice was broken, and the first goal was on the board. Sophomore - Ella Bui found Freshman - Sofia Denson. Denson turned and laid the perfect through-ball to Sophomore - Trysta Truong, who took one touch before hammering it in. SHS 1 - CFHS 0. After another 10 minutes of play, the girls found the net again. Freshman - Annie Katterhenry won the ball on the sidelines. She passed to Sophomore - Kaija Sola, who laid back to Katterhenry. Katterhenry sent it into the middle to Bui, who passed to Truong, who laid it back to Sophomore - Camille Warren. Warren took a one-touch shot that sailed in the air toward the goal. The goalie got her fingertips on it making it hit the post, but Sola was there to tap it in, making it SHS 2 - CFHS 0.

The girls seemed to decide that maybe every 10 minutes they would score, because with 5 minutes left in the half, the Spartans found goal number 3. A cleared ball by a Bobcat landed at the feet of Sophomore Goalie - Sophia Schulz. She played the ball out wide to Katterhenry, who found DensonShe turned and played a through-ball to Warren that turned into a foot race. The goalie came out to save it, but she couldn't hold onto it, so Warren put the finishing touches on it. SHS 3 - CFHS 0.

The Spartans came into the second half facing what seemed to be the second hardest game they had played in District. It was going to take some work to end with a mercy rule, but the girls seemed ready for the challenge. Just 3 minutes into the half, Freshman - Dalton Cashman intercepted a Bobcat goal kick. Her pass landed at the feet of Freshman - Blair Hunter, who turned and made a great pass, setting up Freshman - Sofia Aguilar with a one-on-one. Aguilar placed the ball perfectly on the ground past the goalie to make it SHS 4 - CFHS 0. The magic number of 10 minutes went by before the girls found the net again. This time Freshman - Elise Bernadac threw the ball in to Cashman. She turned and found Freshman - Brooklyn Baber, who laid the ball back to Junior - Cate Shofner. She took one set-up touch that allowed her to take a shot that would sail over the goalies' hands to make it SHS 5 - CFHS 0.

Once again another 10 minutes went by before the Spartans would find the net. Denson showed off some ball skills before she laid the ball back to Warren. She sent the ball up to Baber, who turned and powered her way through 3 defenders before shooting the ball so hard that the goalie had no chance to save it. SHS 6 - CFHS 0. With 13 minutes on the clock and still looking to get their 8 goals, the girls stepped up the pressure. Truong intercepted another Bobcat goal kick. She took one touch and then powered the ball past the goalie. SHS 7 - CFHS 0. With 5 minutes left, Baber stepped in and won the ball. She quickly found Truong open on the opposite side, who attacked the goal, finishing her one-on-one (completing her hat trick) and ending the game at SHS 8 - CFHS 0.

vs. Cy Falls

With only a couple of games left in District play, the Spartans faced off against Cy Falls. Within 2 minutes, the Spartans found the net. Sophomore - Bella Saavedra played the ball out wide to Freshman - Annie Katterhenry, who sent the ball into the box, where Sophomore - Kaija Sola tapped it in. SHS 1 - CFHS 0. A couple of minutes later, Sola turned and laid the ball back to Sophomore - Ella Bui. She played a through-ball toward the goal that connected with Saavedra, who slipped it past the goalie to make it SHS 2 - CFHS 0. After some time playing keep-away, Saavedra sent the ball out wide to Sola, who sent a beautiful cross to Sophomore - Trysta Truong on the backside. She then laid the ball back to Bui, who sent a beautiful shot into the corner for another Spartan goal. SHS 3 - CFHS 0.

On the next drive down the field, the Spartans ended up with a corner kick. The corner was taken by Sola, who sent a fantastic ball to the back post, finding the head of Sophomore - Camille Warren for goal number 4. SHS 4 - CFHS 0. Another corner kick was earned. This time it was taken by Bui. Once again the ball sailed to the back post. Freshman - Sofia Denson did a great job of volleying it back into the middle of the box, where Freshman - Blair Hunter took a quick shot, but it was deflected off a defender. Junior - Maddie Verrett jumped in and put the finishing touches on it to assure the goal. SHS 5 - CFHS 0. For the last 20 minutes of the half, the girls played a great game of keep-away, seeing everyone touch the ball.

The Golden Eagles started the second half with the kick-off. Hunter immediately put pressure on them, forcing them to make a bad pass that ended up at the feet of Warren. She quickly sent the ball back to Hunter, who turned and beat the defenders before pounding the ball into the net for another Spartan goal. SHS 6 - CFHS 0.

At this point, the girls and the coach decided to have fun. Sophomore Goalie - Sophia Schulz saw her first outing as a field player, where the girls spent the next 10 minutes trying to set her up to get a goal. At the 25-mark in the game, their work paid off. The girls earned another corner kick, which was taken by Warren. The ball ended up at Schulz's feet. She laid the ball back out wide to Warren, who then dropped it back to Schulz, who took a one-touch shot that found the back of the net. The crowd went wild! SHS 7 - CFHS 0. A few minutes later Sophomore - Sylvia Castaneda intercepted the ball in the middle of the box. She beat two Golden Eagle defenders before she took a shot, but the goalie made a nice save. The ball landed at the feet of Sola, who turned and took a shot that found the back of the net. SHS 8 - CFHS 0. The girls played keep-away for the final 5 minutes until the whistle sounded to complete their mercy rule victory.

This week is the last week of District play. The girls will play on Tuesday at 5:30 pm vs. Cy Ridge at home and then finish the season on Friday at 5:30 pm vs. Memorial at Memorial. Come out and support the Spartans!
