Tuesday 2/11 SHS at Northbrook

It was the final regular season game of District play! The game was anticlimactic, but Northbrook made it interesting with some non-traditional antics. Due to travel conflicts and illness, we had to shuffle our starting lineup and started Joe Selesky for the first time this year! It was a good move as he scored our first bucket with a corner three-pointer! That started our dominant quarter as we ended the quarter with a 27-9 lead. In the quarter we were led by Kobe Hines with nine points, JD Cheeves with eight points, Joaquin Andrews with six points, and Joe Selesky with four points We cooled down in the second quarter and relaxed a bit to give Northbrook some hope. We only outscored them in the quarter 15-14 to the delight of the Northbrook fans. The score at halftime was 42-23. Leading scorers in the quarter were JD with six, Joaquin with five, and Kenneth Owen and Kobe contributing two points apiece.

In the second half, with the game pretty much over, Northbrook took the opportunity to try to celebrate some of their outgoing seniors. So, when we had the ball, they decided to play five Stratford players against four Northbrook players and have their fifth person stay back by their goal, so if we missed and they got the rebound, they could throw it down the court for an easy bucket. It never happened! We outscored them in the third quarter 25-13. JD scored nine points, Joaquin scored six points, CJ Williams scored five points, Cameron Cocheu and Kobe scored two points apiece. Finally, Cody Hanlen, freshly moved up from JV, contributed a free throw in his Varsity debut.

In the final quarter, Northbrook worked out a deal with our coach to allow them to basically catapult a kid to allow him to dunk. So, we let them get a fast-break, and two guys lifted their smallest player up to the rim so he could dunk. It was actually quite impressive, and he nailed the dunk! Overall, it was a good game to get back in the win column and getting players some rhythm as we prepare for the playoffs. The final score was 87-43.

JD led us in scoring with 23 points, Joaquin scored 19, Cameron scored 16, Kobe scored 13, CJ had seven, Joe had four, Cody had three, and KMO (Kenneth Owenhad two!

Next week is playoff week! We will have our first-round matchup against The Heights on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at the Delmar facility. Please come out and support our boys!
