Last week the JV-B Boys Soccer Team faced off against Memorial and Cy Creek. Stratford took the victory against Memorial 1-0 on Tuesday. Last Friday against Cy Creek, the Spartans were handed their second loss of the season 1-2. These are the highlights on how the games went.

vs. Memorial

Against Memorial the Spartans didn’t come out ready, but they still took the win. Coach Foster had the starting eleven as Mateo Pineda in goal, Rondo MuonEdiel GuiterrezBruno Sancio, and Ethan Ko at the back. The starting midfield included Gavin SierraAtticus Mennes, and Matthew Murillo. The attacking three were Erik MartinezFelipe Medina, and Octavio Molina.

The first half started out on the wrong foot with Memorial dominating. Great defending by MuonKoSancio, and Gutierrez kept Memorial from scoring goals. The team had seemed to be too anxious to face Memorial in this Beltway rivalry. The first half ended, and they knew they could have done better.

The second half started off with big chances being created by Stratford. This eventually led to a goal by Medina, assisted by Ko. The goal was a corner kick sent by Ko to Medina. Memorial’s poor defending on the corner caused Felipe to easily volley it into the back of the net.

The second half continued, and Memorial kept up the pace and started creating chances. Solomon Al-Saad subbed in as goalkeeper to replace Pineda and quickly made an impact. Memorial was given a free kick in shooting range of the goal, and Al-Saad triumphantly saved it and ended a good scoring opportunity for the Mustangs.

An honorable mention goes to David Garcia for his great dribbling and intercepting the ball in the midfield. Although we got the win, a huge loss came with that. In the last five minutes, Sancio had fallen down with an injury. We hope and pray that he gets well soon.

vs. Cy Creek

The second game had a slight change in the lineup with Fabian Maldonado as the center back as a replacement over Sancio. The first half started off great with a goal from Gavin Sierra within the first five minutes. The goal was assisted by Ko with yet another cross from the corner kick. The rest of the half had the Spartans dominating, but no shots were converted in the goal. Cy Creek was only given one big chance to score. The play came during a corner kick when the Cy Creek player could not successfully head the ball toward the goal over the Spartans’ defense.

During the second half, it seemed that the Spartans had slowed down and were relaxing. This lack of momentum would cause Cy Creek to score two goals to come back and win due to the poor effort and defending from the Spartans.

After this week, our record stands at a dominant 15-3-1. This next week the boys will be facing Northbrook at home on Tuesday and Jersey Village away on Friday. We hope to see you there supporting our team!
