JV Girls Soccer vs. Cy Ridge
Friday Night was game 2 for the week. The girls traveled to Cy Ridge to take on the Lady Rams. The girls picked up where they left off Tuesday by attacking early and often. Within the first 5 minutes, everyone had touched the ball and the strategy of how to score was put into place. After that, the shots on goal came in rapid fire. It only took another couple of minutes for the first goal to find the back of the net. A corner kick taken by Truong found Katterhenry on the back side. Katterhenry passed the ball to Sophomore - Kaija Sola, who found Sophomore - Ella Bui in the middle. She made a nice pass back to Sophomore - Lily Terveen, who took a great first touch to beat her defender and set herself up to take a shot from 25 yards out, scoring her first goal of the season and making the score SHS 1 - CRHS 0. For the next 10 minutes, the girls played some keep-away while sprinkling in some shots that would either be saved, go over, or hit the post. With about 17 minutes left in the half, goal number two came. A clearance by a Lady Ram landed at the feet of Terveen. She turned and found Schulz, who continued to switch the field where she found Leonoras. She split the defenders with her pass to Bui in the middle, who made a nice turn and took up the space by dribbling at the defenders until the through-ball to Sola was open. Sola would outrun the defense and find herself in a one-on-one with the goalie. She didn't hesitate to crush the ball in the back of the net to make the score SHS 2 - CRHS 0. Three minutes later, Muras would win the ball off the defensive clearance. She would turn and find Bui in the middle. She tried to find Verrett, but the defender cleared it out. The ball landed at the feet of Shofner, who took a great touch toward the goal, opening up an opportunity for her to place the ball past the goalie to make it SHS 3 - CRHS 0. On the Rams' kick-off, Sola put pressure on the defense, creating a turnover that ended up at the feet of Verrett. She beat a defender before laying the ball forward to Sola, who had taken off on a sprint. She took a great shot on goal but it was saved. Aguilar was ready and waiting to put the rebound in the net to make the score SHS 4 - CRHS 0. With 12 minutes left in the half, the girls got the word that it was time to work on possession. A 10-minute game of keep-away began as all the girls touched the ball and as they put on a beautiful display of ball movement and teamwork. With about 4 minutes left, Sola took the ball down the sideline and crossed it all the way across the field finding Shofner. She laid the ball in the middle to Aguilar, who turned and found Muras. She did not hesitate to take a great one-touch shot that found the back of the net, making it SHS 5 - CRHS 0 going into the half.
During the 2nd half the Spartans continued to dominate. In the first minute of the half, Junior - Julia Wolf intercepted a pass from the Rams. She found Aguilar out wide, who laid the ball back to Sophomore - Katharine Fowler. She found Hunter up top, who turned and beat three defenders. The goalie came out of her goal and tried to stop her, but Hunter powered her way past her, then put the ball in the net to make it SHS 6 - CRHS 0. About five minutes later, Cashman stepped in and intercepted another pass from the Rams. She quickly played a through-ball up top to Hunter, who found herself one-on-one with the goalie again. Once again she won the battle and put the ball in to make it SHS 7 - CRHS 0. Just two minutes later, Sophomore - Sylvia Castaneda won the ball and sent a through-ball out wide to Verrett. She battled through two defenders to take it 30 yards to the goal. She took a great shot, but it hit off the post. The ball rebounded out to the top of the box, where Cashman was waiting unmarked. She took a fabulous one-touch shot to hammer the ball into the back of the net, making it SHS 8 - CRHS 0. Once the score reaches 8-0 the attacking stops and keep-away begins. The girls, once again, did a fantastic job of moving the ball, communicating, and working together. With only two minutes left before the mercy rule was going to be called, the Spartans decided to put on one last attacking session. A throw in by Fowler found Hunter's feet. She laid the ball back to Freshman - Sofia Denson. She then found Sophomore - Amrylin Duhon, who switched the field to Wolf. She found Freshman - Macy Sanchez in the middle, and she turned and laid the perfect through-ball to Hunter running on. She found herself once again one-on-one with the goalie, and once again, she found the back of the net, completing her HAT TRICK and making the final score SHS 9 - CRHS 0.
