Friday, February 7th, 2025 Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Cy Ridge Rams - Spartans lost 5-1
FIRST HALF
The Rams dominated the possession during the first 8 minutes.
- Min. 9: Nicholas Velarde blocked a dangerous shot by Rams’ player.
- Min. 10: Rams score (1-0). Hard shot to the left from short distance.
- Min. 12: Spartans score (1-1). Goal by Tarkan Rendle. The play started with a great run on the right wing by Oliver Burdick, who crossed the ball to Tarkan, and he was able to finish it with a hard shot
- Min. 13-17: High intensity from both teams wanting to attack and battling for ball possession. No clear chances by either team.
- Min. 18: Rams score (2-1) from similar spot as their first goal, with a soft touch near the left post.
- Min. 19: Rams score again (3-1), with a strong shot from 20 yards out to the goalie’s left side.
- Min. 21: Great play by our Spartans moving the ball across the field culminating with a cross by Theo Bigirimana that was deflected by a Rams’ defender.
- Min. 23: Hard shot from long distance by Velarde over cross bar
- Min. 25: Good save by Davis Cooper.
- Min. 25: Miscommunication in the back led to Rams’ striker intercepting a pass and shooting without any opposition and scoring the Rams’ fourth goal (4-1).
- Min. 30: Wide shot by Dawson Burgett.
- Min. 32: Nice play by Hanno Waguespack by dribbling two opponents, but shot wide.
- Min. 33: Shot by Burdick saved by goalie.
It was an entertaining first half with two teams being aggressive and wanting to score.
SECOND HALF
- Min. 5: Shot blocked by Ryan Gifford.
- Min. 8: Shot by Carson Rushing deflected by Rams’ defender.
- Min. 9: Burdick’s direct kick blocked by Rams’ wall.
- Min. 10: Hard shot by Ricky Estrada was saved by Rams’ goalie.
- Min. 13: Nice save by Cooper from close-range shot.
- Min. 15: Red card to Juan Colo when attempting to stop a one-on-one attack by Rams’ striker. Direct kick awarded to Rams’ saved by Cooper. Despite playing with 10, Spartans continue to play hard
- Min. 23: Jonah Yim saved a goal at the goal line.
- Min. 25: Penalty awarded to Rams, resulting in a goal (5-1). Cooper was substituted by Pablo Reyes.
- Min. 26: Shot by Burdick saved by goalie.
- Min. 30: Nice run and shot by Rendle.
- Min. 36: Red card to Rams’ player for aggressive/unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Min. 37: Wide shot by Burdick.
Game over: Rams won 5-1. Spartans fought hard, created good changes, and had many shot attempts.
