Stratford JV 51- Cy Ridge JV 17

The JV Girls Basketball Team welcomed in the Cy Ridge Rams for their last true home game of the season. The Rams walked into a buzzsaw from the beginning, and when all was said and done, the Rams left the court like Mary’s little lambs.

Sparty came out in a man defense, and it worked well. Claire Kadane, Allie Moss, Zoe Thompson, and Aniyah Cunningham kept heavy pressure on the guards. All recorded multiple steals and caused a total breakdown of the Cy Ridge offense. Stella Weiss, Brooke Sponsel, Resse Oppermann, Madison Williams, and Elyse Johnson took care of the paint, all grabbing rebounds and playing solid defense underneath the basket. For the entire game, Ridge only scored three baskets. The passing was again superb, and the scoring came fast and often. Zoe took two drives to the basket. Claire hit a jumper. Stella started scoring in the first quarter and never looked back. In the first, she hit two contested layups and went to the line for two more free throws. Stratford dominated the quarter, but one of the officials really wanted to get his money’s worth out of his whistle. Cy Ridge was able to hit five free throws. It didn’t matter as the Spartans were up 12-5 after one.

The second was more of the same, and it allowed Sparty to put the game out of reach. Zoe and Claire both scored twice more, and Stratford continued to create a turnover parade for the Rams. Madison’s hard work in the paint was rewarded with a bucket as well. Stella stayed hot dropping in a free throw and drilling a three-pointer. All the girls played solid defense and moved the ball well. After half, Stratford was up 26-8.

The second half was just a formality, but to the Rams' credit, they kept fighting. Zoe scored twice more and went to the line for one to finish with 13. Claire hit a beautiful three-pointer and took an assist from Zoe to score another basket for a tally of 11 on the night. Brooke got on board with two free throws and two baskets off nice assists from Stella and ZoeThe scoring was led by Stellawho had herself a night. She scored on three more drives and made Cy Ridge pay for fouling her, connecting four more times from the line. She finished with a game-high and season-high 20 points. It was a solid victory as we look forward to the season finally ending against Memorial on Tuesday.
