Stratford JV vs. Memorial: Tuesday, February 4 - Win: 67-38
It was a very satisfying win for Stratford at home against Memorial, particularly given the close loss earlier in the season at Don Coleman.
The 3s were flying on Tuesday night for Stratford, launching and going in! This helped demoralize the Mustangs from any thoughts of coming back during the course of the game. Tenacious defense stopped what had been easy backdoor baskets during the earlier matchup. Teagan Tedrow hit two 3s early to set the stage. Jay Frazier and Xavier Jackson each had three 3s sprinkled at times during the game. Plus more 3s came from Cody Hanlen, Ben Harris, Will Ubell, and Anderson Fitzgerald (perhaps the longest 3 of the year). There was a little worry about momentum shift at the half as the Mustangs threw up the-quarter court shot at the buzzer, bringing them within 12. But Stratford all-in-all executed a well-played game both offensively and defensively. And this is despite only going to the line once in the entire game.
Scoring was super balanced. Jay Frazier led the team with 11. Teagan Tedrow added 10, and Xavier Jackson, Cody Hanlen, and Ben Harris each added 9. Will Ubell and Alex Harris put in 5 each, and Javian Greenwood and Anderson Fitzgerald contributed 4 and 3, respectively. It was nice to see John Ryan return for some reps after a long injury.
Stratford JV vs. Cy Creek: Friday, February 7 - Win: 66-46
Another strong and balanced effort from the Spartans led to a terrific win at home. The team started off strong, with a nice short jumper from Cody Hanlen and a contested layup from Alex Harris, but Cy Creek fought back in the second quarter, actually taking a lead into the intermission.
The third quarter was a different story where everything seemed to click offensively and defensively. Teagan Tedrow again had a breakout game with a nice mix of 3s, transition layups, and mid-range jumpers, including 8 during the 3rd quarter turnaround. Javian Greenwood also stood out both on the defensive boards and key layups and put-backs. Alex Harris continued his acrobatic steals and moves to the basket. Cody Hanlen added his floor-management skills leading to either his own drives to basket for scores or to happy recipients cutting to the basket.
Teagan Tedrow led the team with 15, followed by Cody Hanlen with 14. Javian Greenwood and Alex Harris had 12 each. Jay Frazier added 6.
