JV-A 1/29: Spartans Secure 3-0 Shutout Over Jersey Village

The Spartans dominated both ends of the field, securing a 3-0 victory over Jersey Village to even their District record at 1-1-1.

The Spartans controlled possession from the start, pushing the ball consistently downfield and creating scoring opportunities. At 29:13Mohammad Alaama delivered a dangerous cross that was blocked for a corner, but the ensuing set piece was cleared. Minutes later, the Spartans broke through as Eduardo Cordero finished off an assist from Alaama to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead at 27:30. The momentum continued at 24:40, when Chris Rogers sent a pinpoint 20-30 yard pass to Cordero, who buried his second goal of the half to extend the lead.

The Spartans nearly added another when Cordero’s shot at 16:55 hit the left post before being cleared. Hudson Hennessey made a strong run at 10:00, followed by another attacking push from Sasha Otero at 9:30, but both attempts were just off the mark. Alaama sprinted down the sideline at 8:40, delivering a cross into the box, but no Spartan was there to finish. The defense, including Zachary Parks, Denys Artiukhov, and Benton Byrd, kept Jersey Village quiet, limiting their attack to almost no first-half chances. A final defensive stand at 1:20 saw a blocked free kick result in a corner, which Byrd successfully cleared, sending the Spartans into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The second half started with an aggressive push, as Hennessey forced a turnover just after kickoff and nearly converted but sent his shot just wide. At 9:36Binh Mai came up big with a penalty kick save to maintain the shutout, while the backline continued to deny Jersey Village any clean looks. The Spartans sealed the victory at 13:00 when Braden Oliphant found Alaama, who finished off the play to make it 3-0.

Late in the game, Alaama and Hennessey linked up for another close opportunity, but the Jersey Village keeper made a crucial stop to deny Hennessey’s header. A dominant performance from start to finish, the Spartans notched their second win of the season and built momentum heading into their next matchup.

Cy Fair managed just one shot on goal, easily handled by Binh Mai, while the Spartans kept the pressure high. Elias Morales nearly broke the deadlock after receiving a through-ball from Hennessey for a one-on-one with the keeper, but a pair of closing defenders forced another strong save.
