To say that Stratford swimmers dominated the JV District Swim Meet would be a huge understatement. The Spartans handily won the Boys’ Division, scoring nearly twice as many points as the second place team (Memorial), and winning all of the relay events. The Spartans also took second in the Girls' Division (out of seven teams) and won the 200 freestyle relay.
Head Swim Coach Cassandra Brisbin was thrilled with her young swimmers’ intensity and speed. “Everyone did great and swam personal best times,” she said. “We are very proud of them.”
Stratford’s sophomores showed up in a big way, winning several of the events. Max Bednar won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.09 and the 100 butterfly with 1:00.73. Charlie Amis took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.57. Luke Ickes won the backstroke with a time of 1:00.08, and Brady Herring finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.47.
The Spartans swept the boys’ relays. Stratford won the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:51.66 with Ickes (back, 26.96), sophomore Binh Mai (breast, 32.25), Bednar (fly, 25.54), and junior Diego Oliver (free, 26.91). In winning the 200 Freestyle Relay, Stratford’s A team swam a 1:36.19 with Ickes (23.90), Mai (25.12), Herring (24.13), and Bednar (23.04). Stratford’s boys won the 400 Freestyle Relay, clocking in at 3:40.17, with junior Gavin Rump (55.20), sophomore Carter Phillips (57.34), Amis (54.76), and Herring (52.87).
The Spartans won the Girls 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:52.69, with sophomore Jill Hyland (28.97), freshman Emma McLean (28.16), junior Leah Claire Nall (28.18), and freshman Julia Cvetkovic (27.38). The Spartans took third in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:10.94 with Cvetkovic (back 34.90), sophomore Audrey Bown (breast, 35.32), McLean (fly, 32.08), and Nall (free, 28.64). The Girls' Team also placed third in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:22.49 with freshman Kate Homer (1:04.01), freshman Caroline Culbertson (1:07.06), freshman Claire Culbertson (1:07.94), and Bown (1:03.48).
We have to give a special shout-out to the Boys 200 Freestyle B Relay, which had the second-fastest time in the event at 1:41.00 with Rump (24.69), Amis (24.69), junior Delsyn Brisbin (26.51), and Phillips (25.11). (Under meet rules, a team can enter a B relay, but it is not considered in the official scoring).
The other teams competing at the meet included Memorial High School, Cy Fair High School, Cy Creek High School, Cypress Woods High School, Cypress Ridge High School, and Northbrook High School. Full official meet results can be found HERE.
