JV-A Boys Soccer Games End in a Draw Against Cy Creek and a Loss Against Northbrook

JV-A 1/23: Home Match against Cy Creek Ends in a Draw

The first half was a battle for control as both teams traded chances early. At 27:01, Braden Oliphant launched a high shot that nearly found a teammate for the tap-in before Creek’s defense cleared. Moments later, Oliphant came up big on defense with a clutch slide tackle in the box to halt Creek’s offensive charge at 23:05. At 20:40, Creek tested Binh Mai, who made a diving save to keep the score even. A free kick from Benton Byrd at 18:20 missed just wide, followed by a hustle play from Hudson Hennessey. At 10:00, Ayden Zuniga delivered a perfect free kick that led to multiple attempts on goal, including a close rebound shot by Emiliano Ponce. The breakthrough came at 4:14 when Mohammad Alaama sprinted after a downfield pass. With the Creek goalie rushing out, Alaama stayed composed and finished with a goal. Mai came up with a crucial save in the final seconds to preserve the 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Oliphant’s shot at 33:00 was stopped, and Creek’s counter-attack at 30:00 was shut down by the Spartans' defense. At 19:27, Alaama created another chance with a skillful move and cross into the box, but no one was there to capitalize. At 5:33, a defensive turnover led to several close Creek attempts, including one off the crossbar. Despite several saves by Erich Cheng, a handball gave Creek an opening, and Cy Creek capitalized at 4:30 to tie the game 1-1. In the final moments, the Spartans earned two corner kicks that nearly delivered the winning goal, but the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

 

JV-A 1/24: Away Match against Northbrook

The Spartans fought hard against a strong Northbrook team but ultimately fell 0-3.The game began with early action as the Spartans nearly scored in the opening minute, but Northbrook’s defense held firm. At 32:00, Northbrook took a 1-0 lead. The first half saw plenty of back-and-forth play. At 20:00, a Northbrook free kick resulted in a high shot, giving the Spartans a chance to regroup. Moments later, Hudson Hennessey came close after a strong team push downfield. The defense, anchored by goalie Erich Cheng, stood strong, clearing a dangerous corner at 16:00 and a handball free kick at 14:30. A long shot from Brayan Guardado at 11:30 tested the keeper but was too far, and a promising midfield play by Sasha Otero ended out of bounds. At 4:15, Mohammad Alaama collected a pass and shot just wide, sending the Spartans into halftime trailing 0-1.

Northbrook struck again early in the second half and doubled their lead to 2-0. The Spartan defense, led by Mai, held firm, clearing a corner at 27:00. Ayden Zuniga launched a free kick at 19:00, and Alaama made a run at 14:50, forcing a save by the Northbrook goalie. A foul in the box at 14:10 led to a penalty kick, and Northbrook converted to make it 3-0. Hennessey’s on-target shot at 9:22 was stopped, and Alaama’s free kick from 30 yards out at 6:33 just missed high. At 4:00, Alaama nearly scored, but Northbrook’s defense remained firm. Despite the defeat, the Spartans remained determined and showed resilience.
