Saturday Jan 11, 2025 - SHS Men’s Varsity Boys vs. North Shore. Spartans Win 2-1.
First half: SHS played well overall with several clear scoring chances and more ball possession but committed too many offsides that prevented the Spartans from scoring more goals. Notable moments were a good save by Pablo Reyes, a missed scoring opportunity on a one-on-one by Tarkan Rendle, a goal from Fardin Ansari halfway through the first half with a nice shot from mid-distance, and two goal-scoring attempts by Carson Rushing and Oliver Burdick, both shots saved by North Shore’s goalie. SHS committed a penalty toward the end of the first half that resulted in North Shore scoring and tying the game.
Second half: SHS started strong and put pressure on North Shore, causing turnovers. The Spartans' midfielders were alert and making good passes to our attackers. SHS attempted to attack several times but were offsides. Onan Amaya scored on a mid-distance shot after Tarkan’s shot was deflected by North Shore’s goalie. North Shore began to push up and put pressure on SHS’s midfield and defense, resulting in three shots taken that were saved by Pablo. His best save came on a hard shot to his left. A fourth shot from North Shore minutes later was blocked by SHS defenders. Tarkan, active all game, had a one-on-one chance but could not convert.
The best attacking play of the game came with five minutes left, where several Spartans made quick passes and a final pass to Carson that left him a great scoring opportunity, but his shot went wide. North Shore attempted to tie the game with numerous crossings and corner shots, but our defensive effort was outstanding and the hard work ended up paying off with SHS coming out on top for a well-deserved, first win.
