Tuesday, November 19, saw Spring High School come to Stratford. Senior forwards Kendall Davis and Bella Perroni, Senior guard Megan Hallmark, Sophomore guard Riley O'Connor and Freshman guard Ava Gibson started the game. O'Connor was the first on the board with a steal and score. Hallmark then found O'Connor in the right corner for a three-pointer. That was a portend of things to come. Gibson drove the lane with her right hand, switched to her left, and scored. Davis grabbed an offensive rebound, created space, and laid the ball in. O'Connor nailed another three. Gibson stole the ball in the backcourt and swiftly passed to Sophomore guard Camille Warren for a bucket. Warren followed with a steal and drove the length of the court to score. Gibson knocked in a long two off the out-of-bounds pass from Warren, and the quarter ended with the Spartans up 18-4. The Spartans performed ballet on the court. It was beautiful, with nifty passes, ball protection, and a lot of scoring.

For the first three minutes and 47 seconds of the second quarter, none of those things happened. When Head Coach Audrisa Harrison called timeout, it was 18-17. Senior guard Layla Lloyd stopped the bleeding with a drive and short jumper in the lane. Lloyd then found O'Connor for a trey. Davis created her own bucket in traffic. She then hit O'Connor for another three! Perroni forced a loose ball that resulted in Lloyd scoring and the half ended, 32-20, Spartans.

The third quarter was a slugfest with little scoring. Fouls were abundant but the refs called nary a one. Gibson had a half-court steal and score. Later she scored off a drive, and it was 36-22 with one quarter to go.

In the fourth quarter, Senior forward Gretchen Loveless had an assist to DavisO'Connor scored a three from the right corner off the pass from Davis. The refs called the first official foul of the half with 4:30 remaining. O'Connor celebrated their awakening with yet another three off the assist from Senior guard Aria Taylor. An additional three swished in, courtesy of Taylor, with the assist to HallmarkO'Connor could not be stopped. She made her final three off a pass from Lloyd, finishing seven for 11 from behind the arc. Taylor popped in one more trey, and the final was 54-34.

  • O'Connor led all scorers with 23 points.
  • Gibson had eight points and four steals.
  • Davis had six points and eight rebounds.
  • Lloyd had six points and five rebounds.
  • Taylor also had six points.
