Saturday 11/9 vs. St. Thomas Episcopal

The 2024-25 basketball season kicked off Saturday on the road against the TAAPS 4A 2nd-ranked private school boys basketball team, St. Thomas Episcopal. The game was played at 9 am in the morning, which traditionally has not been kind to us!!! We started the game very slowly, only scoring 11 points, leading the game 11-5.

We started the second quarter with a little burst and got up by 3, but STE stormed back with a barrage of 3's and took a 5 point lead with about 3 minutes to play. Coach Quinton Mason called a time out, settled our boys down, and then we methodically chipped away at the lead to tie it at halftime 25-25.

After halftime, we really found our groove and started imposing our will on them. Our defensive effort, which started with three minutes remaining in the second quarter, was sustained in the second half and we started creating turnovers and making it hard for them to run any offense. Our guards really pestered them the entire game. CJ Williams started the pressure, and when Kobe Hines was subbed in, he took the defensive pressure to another level. Our overall team speed was very tough for them to handle. The final score ended up being 63-41.

We did not make any three-pointers in the first half, but we had four in the second half, with Joaquin Andrews making two, and Vasili Fakaris and Jake Lovoi each making one apiece. The defense played by JD Cheeves, Cameron Couchu, Elliot Harlan, and Trent Burke led to many easy shots. The leading scorers for the game were Joaquin with 18 points, JD with 13, Vasili with 9, CJ with 8, and Kobe contributing 6. Cameron and Jake added 3 points apiece, and Trent and Logan Hatcher contributed 2 apiece.

This was a great start to our season and sets us up nicely for our next game on Tuesday against the SPC 10th-ranked private school boys basketball team, Houston Christian. We play at Stratford on Tuesday at 7 pm. Please come out and support the team as this year will be a very exciting one!
