It was another perfect fall evening for football, and the boys didn't disappoint this week! Stratford JV Green traveled to Cypress to take on the Cy Falls Eagles. It was a battle to prove who has the best green uniforms in Houston.

The opening kickoff was taken by Stratford and returned to the 37 yard line. The first play of the game, Gavin Guzman connected with Jayden Matthews for a 15 yard gain. After a couple of scrambles from Guzmanit was 4th and 1. Stratford passed on the 42 yard field goal and decided to go for it. A play action worked, and Guzman connected with Reayon Harris for a 25 yard TD pass right down the middle of the field. After an extra point, the Spartans took the early lead 7-0.

The ensuing kickoff was blasted through the back of the end zone by Bernardo Sanchez for a touchback. The Eagles didn't take long to march down the field and score. After a 2-point conversion, they took the lead 8-7.

Jaelaun Rosser received the next kickoff and returned it all the way back to the Cy Falls 48 yard line. Guzman again showed off his speed and scrambled for 25 yards on the first play. The very next play, Guzman connected with TJ Robinson for a 6 yard gain. Finally, Guzman completed a pass to Jack Sullivan in the right side of the end zone for a TD. After another extra point, Stratford retook the lead, 14-8.

Cy Falls quickly responded with a TD drive and another 2-point conversion, making it 16-14. After back-and-forth punts from both teams, Stratford lined up to receive a punt from Cy Falls. The kick somehow went backwards and netted a -3 yard punt where Stratford took over at the Cy Falls 15 yard line. Unable to move the ball, Stratford kicked a 31 yard field goal to regain the lead, 17-16, going into half time.

After a restful halftime, Stratford kicked off to Cy Falls. After a great pass breakup by Eric Michaud, Joey Mundwiller made a 3rd down stop to force a punt. That was the story for all of the third quarter: punt, punt, punt. Griffin Marye made his return to the field and made a great tackle on his first play in over a month. Quincy McCall and Aiden Wheeler both had a great tackles for loss. The third quarter ended the same as it started, 17-16 Spartans.

The fourth quarter started with Cy Falls driving. After another TFL by Wheeler on first down, Mundwiller sacked the Cy Falls QB on second down and then defended a deep pass on third down. He was everywhere! On 4th and 17, Wyatt Koy made a huge tackle to force a turnover on downs. Stratford struck quickly with a 78 yard touchdown pass from Guzman to Sullivan. After a 2-point conversion, Stratford took a 25-16 lead with 6 minutes left.

The Stratford D stood tall, and big plays by Cade Gronseth (big hit), Colton Barber (TFL), and Callan Kirk (TFL) forced the last turnover on downs The boys traveled home with another W, winning 25-16. It was a phenomenal game for offense, defense, and special Teams.

Next week is against Cy Ridge back home at Stratford. Come out and enjoy the great weather and great football!
