vs. Cy Creek
The Junior Varsity Lady Spartans started the 2nd half of District at home against the Cy Creek Cougars. The Spartans beat the Cougars on their home turf early in the season and the Cougars were out to repay the favor. Both teams came out ready to play in the first set in a back-and-forth game that saw multiple kills from Lauren Gioco, Cason Wakefield, and Sofia Nikolovski. Unfortunately, the Lady Spartans lost a heartbreaker 27-29.
The second set appeared that it was going to be another let-down set as the ladies were down 4-9 early on. However, a kill by Ginger Koss put the serve in Braelyn Barber’s hands and the ladies went on a 9-0 run that included three aces by Barber and scores by Myrah Howard, Wakefield, and Gioco, bringing the score to 14-9. The ladies did not look back after that. Continued strong play at the net by Howard, along with aces by Wakefield and Gioco brought the score to 24-15. The ladies closed out the set on a nice pass from Gioco to Clare Townsend, who then fed Koss a perfect set for the kill to win the second set 25-15.
The third and final set once again started out slow for our Spartans and found us down 8-13. A nice dig by Braelyn Walla set up an out of system set to Ainsley Pine, who put down the perfect tip for a kill to get the Spartans back on track. An ace by Kyndall Burgett and kills by Wakefield and Nikolovski along with some help from the Cougars brought the score to 21 all. Unfortunately, the Lady Spartans could not stop the Cougars at that point and lost the set and ultimately the game with a score of 21-25.
