The Nike South Invitational is one of the premier meets in Texas, and this year was no exception. Top teams and individuals from all over Texas and surrounding states came to compete against the best of the best at Bear Creek Park in the Woodlands. The meet was seeded into ten different races held throughout the morning. Our Varsity Girls Team competed in the Elite Division, and the Varsity Boys were divided between the Elite and Red Divisions.
VARSITY GIRLS
Facing several of the top ranked teams in Texas, the Varsity girls had their toughest test of the season so far. Our usual front runner, freshman Annika Huapaya suffered a rolled ankle early in the race but ran tough to finish. Freshman Shelbie Waggenspack and Ella Moore stepped up to lead the Spartans.

VARSITY BOYS
The Varsity Boys Team placed 15th out of 26. Missing one of our scoring runners to injury, the Spartans were still able to beat out several other Region 3 teams in attendance, proving the team is fit and ready for the post season. Senior Ben Pearce impressively took down the top runners out of Dallas to place second overall. The only runner ahead of Ben was from Louisiana, making Ben the top finisher from Texas at the meet. Trending in the right direction at the right time, Seniors Andrew Hopkins and Samuel Jordan both lowered their times on this same course from last season.
ELITE Division 5K Results - 186 runners:
Battling the sun and heat as the morning went on, Junior Nathan Scott led the way for the Spartans in the Red Division. Not far behind, the rest of the Spartans ran in a tight pack. Senior Ethan Shuck ran conservatively from the start and began to pick off runners in the latter half of the race to finish as the second Spartan to cross the line.
