Cross Country Runs in the Dobie Longhorn Stampede, Varsity Boys Attend McNeil Invitational

The Spartans persevered in what may have been the hottest and most humid meet of the season. Over 2,000 runners endured the brutal conditions to compete on the grounds of Dobie High School in Pearland at the Dobie Longhorn Stampede.

 

DOBIE LONGHORN STAMPEDE

VARSITY GIRLS

The Varsity Girls finished 6th out of 17 teams. Freshman Annika Huapaya led the Spartans with a 7th place finish. Annika broke the 20-minute barrier for the second time this season. The girls’ team is quietly building a solid season due in part to the consistency of their pack running.

JV BOYS

The JV Boys Team finished in 3rd place out of 37 teams. Junior Diego Ruiz and sophomore Wesley Shuck took down nearly 300 runners to place in the top 10. Big contributions by junior Liam Osbon and sophomore Ashton Campbell helped keep the Spartan JV Boys’ Team on the podium.

JV GIRLS

The JV Girls Team finished 4th out of 45 teams. Freshman Delaney Abowd placed 2nd individually, making it look like an easy effort. This is the second week in a row Delaney has found herself on the podium.

FRESHMAN BOYS

The Freshman Boys dominated the race, placing 1st as a team out of 13 teams. Yunus Altintas paced behind the leader the first mile, then unleashed in the second mile to take the lead and didn’t look back. Ethan Capelo and Emmet Odom ran stride-for-stride, passing runners to finish in 3rd and 5th respectively. Will Fast was back to form contributing a strong 8th place performance.

MCNEIL INVITATIONAL

VARSITY BOYS

The Varsity Boys packed up and headed to Round Rock for the much-anticipated McNeil Invitational. This meet takes place on the state course and attracts top talent from all over Texas and neighboring states.

The Varsity Boys placed 4th as team out of 53 and put two runners in the top 10 in blistering 95 degree heat. Senior Ben Pearce maintained his unbeaten streak, running from the front from start to finish. Senior Andrew Hopkins followed up with another promising performance, placing 5th individually. Andrew will be a key runner for the Spartans heading into championship season.
