Varsity vs. Memorial

Next up was Varsity playing against the host Memorial Mustangs. A very close first quarter ended with a 2-1 lead with sophomore Wade Hicks hitting a 5-meter penalty shot and later another goal. In the second quarter, the Spartans exploded for five goals taking a 7-2 advantage at the half. The third and fourth quarters saw both teams exchanging goals, but the Spartans prevailed with a great 11-7 victory. Senior Nathan Moss finished the night with three goals, six steals, one assist, and a forced exclusion for the first goal of the game. Senior Julian Hemmer had three assists and a goal. Junior Diego Oliver had seven saves as goalie.

Varsity vs. Foster

Friday night Varsity played at the LCISD Nat of the Foster Falcons in Richmond, Texas. The Falcons, who are undefeated in District, held only a 3-0 lead after the first. Foster then exploded for six goals in the second quarter for a 9-0 lead. In the third quarter, the Spartans got on the board with a goal by Ricky Conticello assisted by Devon Beals. Marin Pavlin added another goal later in the third. Gavin Rump scored the final goal for the Spartans in the fourth for a final score of 18-3 for a Foster win. Brady Herring played goalie and had six saves and three steals.

On Saturday, both Stratford and Memorial hosted Lamar and Westside at the SBISD Nat with a two-game tournament. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they were playing without three senior starting utility players on Saturday.

Varsity vs. Lamar

The team kept the game against Lamar close until they wore out in the fourth quarter losing 6-13. Wade Hicks scored two goals and two penalty shots, while Sam Brooks and Gavin Rump added a goal apiece.

Varsity vs. Westside

In the later game, Stratford jumped quickly with Wade Hicks scoring two goals, and Brock Hunter added one in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead over the Wolves. Westside fought back, but with a late goal by Delsyn Brisbin, we were able to take a 4-3 lead at the half. The Wolves scored two more in the third and two more in the fourth to beat the Spartans by the score of 7-5. Brock Hunter scored Stratford’s final goal with an assist from Sam Brooks in the fourth. Diego Oliver had eight saves as goalie.
