On Saturday September 7th, the Stratford Water Polo Team along with Memorial hosted Bridgeland and Cy Creek for a two-game-for-each team tournament.

vs. Bridgeland

The Stratford Varsity Boys first played Bridgeland, where they cruised to a 17 to 4 win. Stratford offense had good passing with more assists than usual and scored on many counters. A lot of scores were distributed throughout the team. Of note, Nathan Moss had 3 goals, 3 assists, 2 steals, and caused 2 exclusions with only 1 turnover. Wade Hicks added 5 goals, a steal, and an assist.

In the fourth quarter some of the young players got involved in the scoring - Gavin Rump scored 2, and Sam Brooks, Charlie Mooreand Luke Ickes each scored a goal late. Defensively, they did not give the Bears many opportunities to score. SHS goalie, Diego Oliver, didn’t have to do much with the defensive effort but had a great diving save in the first half. He gave way to Brady Herring to play goalie in the second half, where he only gave up one penalty shot.

vs. Cy Creek

In the second game, Stratford Boys played Cy Creek, one of the better teams in the area for the third time this year. This game was much closer than the first two times our boys played them - down at half by only 5-7 and at the end of the third it was 7-10.

In the fourth quarter, Cy Creek took control and our boys lost the game 7-14. Marin Pavlin scored 2 goals in the first, and Ricky Conticello added two more. Against one of the better teams, our turnovers were down and our assist numbers were up. The boys are playing better as a team moving closer to District.
