Cross Country Runs Strong at BFND Invitational

BFND Invitational Recap:

Stratford Cross Country was on familiar stomping ground at Spring Creek Park in Tomball this week. Battling the Texas heat once again, the Spartans left their mark at the BFND Invitational.

VARSITY BOYS

Despite missing several Varsity boys due to illness and injury, the guys fought hard to secure a runner-up team finish out of 14 teams. Senior Ben Pearce cruised to victory, finishing 40 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Junior Owen Duggan ran conservatively for the first mile, then turned on the jets in the second half of the race to kick to a 6th place finish. Senior Sam Jordan contributed a critical top-20 performance, to keep the Spartan boys on the podium.

VARSITY GIRLS

In her first Varsity race, freshman Annika Huapaya made a statement with an impressive top-ten finish against stiff competition. Ella Moore and Kailyn Silva made their Varsity debut this week showing lots of potential as they gain valuable race experience.

JV GIRLS

Freshman Shelbie Waggenspack continued to show her toughness and ran with the front pack to finish in 6th place among a large field of runners. The JV girls finished in 7th place out of 15 teams.

Sophomore Nolan Brock had a break-out race finishing in 12th place and is looking to build on his performance this season. Kaleb Bernat was close behind after making a substantial improvement from the last meet. The JV Boys placed 4th as a team out of 19 teams.

FRESHMAN BOYS

The sidelines were packed with Varsity and JV runners ready to cheer on their freshman squad. The Spartan freshman boys backed up their team win last week with another first-place team finish. Yunus Actintas impressed again, motoring to victory by a wide margin. Ethan Capelo and Grant Smith ran as a pack for most of the race to finish in 4th and 5th place respectively.
