Preparation is Over, Time to Eat as Varsity Football Wraps Up Last Scrimmage

The much-anticipated scrimmage against Westside on Thursday was unfortunately cut short due to an injury to an opposing player. The coaches played a little number scramble by outfitting players in random numbered jerseys and thus confusing parents and grandparents in attendance.

Stratford had two offensive series during the scrimmage and went to work early behind strong offensive line play. It was great to see Javi Denson in the backfield again after returning from a season-ending injury in 2023. Denson quickly ripped off runs of 29, 14, and 27 yards, scoring a touchdown. Aaron Deleon hit Anderson Dinh on a 13-yard skinny post on the second scoring drive that was set up after Davis Kendall gashed the Westside defense on runs of 13 and 44 yards. Hunter Biehl took a DeLeon swing pass that Biehl took 60 yards for a score after showing off his elusiveness in traffic. Cody Hanlen showed depth at the receiver position as he picked up big chunks of yards on three catches.

The defense contained the Westside offense behind some run-stoppers up front and a couple of big hits from Mac Greene and Parker Johnson. Westside struggled to get the run game going in between the tackles and had limited success with its outside run game. Greene and Johnson made sure their presence was felt.
