The Spartans left it all on the field as their season came to an end on Friday. They fought back after a bitter loss on Thursday, to give Chavez a run for their money on Friday, but the cards were stacked against us.

vs. Chavez – Loss (0-14)

Chavez came ready to play on Thursday, the Lady Lobos brought a defense that made some amazing plays and an offense that put up 7 hits on the night. The Spartan defense gave up too many errors, and the offense could not put two hits together to score a run, only three singles spread out over 5 innings from Allison Hibbetts, Caroline Chamberlain, and Gwyn Katterhenry. Katterhenry took the loss for the Spartans, pitching 5 innings and striking out 3.

vs. Chavez – Loss (4-6)

Despite out-hitting Chavez, the Spartans fell to Chavez 6-4 on Friday. The Spartans jumped into the lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Ava Esparza hit a solo homerun to centerfield to light a spark in the Spartans. Caroline Chamberlain reached on an error, followed by a single by Ashlyn Bell. Allison Hibbetts drew a walk, Layla Yslas doubled, and Elizabeth McGuire singled, putting the Spartans up 4-1. The Spartans were unable to score in the 4th from a single by Jessica Youngblood and a double by Gwyn Katterhenry. They tried again to rally late after Chavez came into the lead in the 6th with a single by Aashna Kapoor and a double by Caroline Chamberlain but were unable to overcome the deficit. They played with a lot of heart and left it all on the field. Bell led the offense, going 2-4, and Yslas drove in 2 of the 4 runs. Kapoor took the loss for the Spartans, pitching 5.2 innings. Katterhenry appeared in relief for the final out of the game.
