The Stratford Boys Golf Team played in the Region III Golf Tournament Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 at Eagle Pointe Golf Course. On day one, Stratford was paired up with Clear Creek HS, Seven Lakes HS, and Pearland HS. Stratford started off slow with no one making any putts but gained momentum on the back nine holes. Andrew Molina finished the day shooting one over par, 73 to lead the team and putting us in a tie for third place with Clear Lake HS.

On day two, we were paired again with Clear Creek HS, Memorial HS, and Clear Lake HS. The day started with a small rain delay, which brought in high winds that caused the course to play extremely difficult. All the teams in the field lost strokes to the unpredictable winds, which caused all the teams to bunch up near the leaders. As Stratford turned to the back nine, we gained strokes on the leaders and were in third place all alone.

As we got to hole 16, we needed to make a charge on the last three holes to advance to the State Golf Championship. Noah Bahrami, Caleb Lumpkin, and Ben Potter all birdied hole 16 to help the team. Tyler Davis also made a birdie on hole 17 to give more breathing room over Kingwood HS, only 4 shots back.

As the last putt went in on hole 18, Stratford still had a 4-shot lead over Kingwood HS, which confirmed Stratford advancing to the State Golf Championship for the second year in a row. The State Golf Championship will be hosted at White Wing Golf Course in Georgetown on April 29-30. Congratulations to the Boys Golf Team for advancing to the State Golf Championship!
