The Area 17/18 Track and Field Meet was held on our campus on Friday, and thirteen Spartans advanced to the Regional round by finishing top-4 in their respective events. In team points, our boys were third in the standings and our girls were tied for fifth.
REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
OTHER TOP-6 POINT EARNERS
*Our boys 4 x 100m Relay had an unfortunate baton drop that resulted in a disqualification. As our fourth runner was sprinting toward the finish line in a tight battle for first and second, his arm and the arm of the runner to the left of him collided and the baton fell to the track. Had that not happened, they appeared to be in position to win the race. It was purely accidental and no fault of anyone, but it was a painful and cruel way for this talented group of guys to go out. Hunter Biehl, Aaron DeLeon, Nate Grant, and Luke Rives ran extremely well and had an outstanding season together as a relay squad.
UPCOMING - REGION III TRACK and FIELD MEET
The Region III 6A/5A meet will be held at Humble ISD’s Turner Stadium on Friday and Saturday of this week. Our Spartan qualifiers will be competing for a chance to advance to the UIL Texas State Meet, but must finish top-2 in their event(s) to do so.
If you are a track and field fan and/or may just be looking for an entertaining way to spend next Saturday afternoon, you won’t want to miss it. The talent on display will be outstanding and the atmosphere will be electric.
