JV Baseball Wins Both Games in Cy Ridge Doubleheader

Stratford JV Spartans vs. Cypress Ridge JV, April 9th

Stratford won big over Cy Ridge 13-4 at The Backyard. Ranes Denman earned the win in the rain, surrendering one hit and 3 runs over 2 innings, striking out 4, all while pitching with two inches of mud on the bottom of his cleats. Will Tacker came in for relief and collected the save. After the second inning, the rain stopped, and the Spartans went to work.

Stratford led the game 5-3 in the bottom of the second after Sammy Salas was struck by a pitch, driving in one run, and Denman singled, scoring 3 runs.

Stratford added to the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Jack Sullivan drew a walk and Brandon Phillips hit a sacrifice fly, scoring 2 runs. Sammy Salas drove the middle of the lineup, leading Stratford with two runs batted in. Phillips, Carsten Vasut, Salas, and Denman each collected one hit for Stratford. Zach Christie led the team with 3 walks. The team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 13 walks for the game.

 

Stratford JV Spartans vs. Cypress Ridge JV, April 12th

Clutch hitting propelled the Stratford JV Spartans to victory over the Cypress Ridge JV team, 12-1. Ryan Lamon singled in the second inning, scoring 2 runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.

Stratford won thanks in part to seven runs in the second inning with Jackson Golden on base, struck by a pitch, driving in a run, William Tacker grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored one run. Lamon singled, scoring 2 runs, William Coates doubled, scoring one run, and Levi Lease singled, scoring one run.

Stratford added 2 runs in the third, with Lamon’s single, making the score 9-0.

Lease earned the win on the mound, giving up one hit and one run (zero earned) over 3 innings, striking out five. Pacer Daniel threw two innings of scoreless ball for Stratford in relief, giving up one hit and striking out three.

The Spartans amassed nine hits in the game. Lease, Nick Gioco, and Lamon each collected two hits for Stratford. Luke Tamez and Tacker added to the total with one hit each, while Daniel and Peter Vescovo helped by each contributing a sacrifice fly in the game. Cole Youngblood led Stratford with two walks.

Stratford finished up the Cy Ridge series winning both games with good pitching and staying hot at the plate. A JV team dinner is set for Monday, April 15th to fire up the team and parents to face our rival Memorial Mustangs this week.
