Varsity Softball Secures Playoff Spot With Big Wins Against Spring Woods, Cy Ridge

The Spartans picked up 2 more District wins this week and have secured their spot in the PLAYOFFS again this year!

They will finish out District play this week with two games against Memorial and Jersey Village.

 

vs. Spring Woods – Win (20-2)

The Spring Woods Tigers were outmatched as Stratford’s offense racked up 20 runs on 9 hits in a 4-inning run-rule last Tuesday. Aashna Kapoor and Elizabeth McGuire led the offense going 3 for 4 and 2 for 3, respectively. Jessica YoungbloodCallie PiercySophie Donneland Isabela Sanchez each picked up singles throughout the game. Youngblood, Kapoorand Piercy combined to bring in 9 RBIs of the 20 runs scored. Yslas scored in all 4 at-bats. Kapoor earned the win for the Spartans, pitching all 4 innings in the run-ruled game, striking out 4.

vs. Cy Ridge – Win (12-2)

Gwyn Katterhenry was dominant in the circle as she rang up 10 strikeouts in Stratford’s victory over Cy Ridge on Friday. The Spartans' bats were HOT, collecting 16 hits in total. Stratford got on the board in the first inning after back-to-back singles by Allison Hibbetts and Ashlyn Bell to score one run. Cy Ridge answered back with one run in the bottom of the second, and then Stratford ran away with it from there. Stratford scored 3 runs in the bottom of the second after a lead-off triple by Jessica Youngblood and a pair of singles by Katterhenry and Elizabeth McGuire. The Spartans added another 3 runs in the third inning from a lead-off double by Caroline Chamberlain, singles by Alessia Avalos and Youngblood, followed by a sacrifice fly by Katterhenry and another single by Hibbetts.

Cy Ridge picked up one more run in the top of the 4th and would score no more. Stratford added another 3 runs in the 4th inning from singles by Layla YslasAashna Kapoorand Ava Esparza, and they would pick up their final two runs to secure a run-rule from singles by Hibbetts and Yslas in the 6th inning. Katterhenry earned the win for the Spartans.
