Varsity Baseball in Three-Way Tie for 2nd in District Following Spring Woods Wins

Stratford Spartans vs. Spring Woods Tigers, April 2nd

Stratford hosted the Tigers in Game 1 at The Backyard on Senior Night. The Spartans would strike first early in the first inning with a Henry Braniff single to score Timothy Winterwho reached on a single to left. In the home half of the second inning, the Spartans would add 4 more runs with Owen BennettAdam GilbertCaden Baker, and Cooper Harrison all touching the plate. Braxton Wakefield would open the bottom of the 4th with a double, and Ethan Gentil would bring him home on a double of his own to make it 6-0 Stratford. Bo Harrison would single home Gentil the very next at bat. The Spartans would extend their lead to 10-0 and take home the win Tuesday night. The pitching staff of Carson CraftChristian RamirezThomas Cloud, and Walker Sage would combine to only allow 1 hit over 5 innings to secure the shutout.

 

Stratford Spartans vs. Spring Woods Tigers, April 5th

Friday night at Spring Woods the Spartans came out hot to start game 2 of the series! Blake Barry would double home Rylan Reichenau, who reached on an error to lead off the game. Chris Johnson would follow Barry with a double down the LF line to score Rian Healy and BarryLuke Zilafro would bring home Owen Bennett, who was running for Johnson to make it 4-0. After a Burke Malloy walk, Ford Givens would double deep to right centerfield to score Malloy and extend the lead to 5-0. A Will McCarroll walk brought back the top of the order to the plate. Reichenau would clear the bases with a double to the wall in left centerfield, blowing the game wide open in the first inning, 7-0. A Healy walk would set the table for Barry once again. Blake deposited a fast ball over the left field fence for his second home run of the season to make it 10-0 Spartans. The final score would end up 11-0 Spartans and result in a sweep of the District matchup with the Tigers.

Caden Cooper would continue his dominance on the mound,  striking out 8 Tigers over 3 innings of work. Drew Emery came on in relief and struck out 2 to secure the shutout. Stratford is currently in a 3-way tie for 2nd in District with a 6-2 record.
