JV Baseball Snags Two Wins Against Spring Woods

Stratford JV Spartans vs. Spring Woods JV Tigers – Tuesday, April 2

The JV Spartans improved their record to an impressive 17-3-1 after two wins over Spring Woods this past week. In the first game of the week on Tuesday at the Backyard, the pitching staff and the offense proved very effective with a 15-0 victory. Luke Tamez started the game on the mound and earned the win, giving up no hits and striking out two in the first inning. William Coates came in for inning 2 and also gave up no hits and struck out two. Carsten Vasut continued the mound domination with three strikeouts in the third inning, and Levi Lease and Cole Youngblood finished off the fourth and fifth innings respectively with no hits and two strikeouts each. All together the pitching staff struck out 11 batters!

On the offensive side, Will Tacker led the team with three hits in three at-bats, singles in each of the first 3 innings. Jack McAfee led the team with three walks, and overall the entire team had a strong eye on the plate, amassing a total of 12 walks for the game. Sammy Salas, Zach Christie, Ranes Denmanand Jack Sullivan all collected a single each, helping contribute to the convincing win over the Tigers.

 

Stratford JV Spartans vs. Spring Woods JV Tigers – Friday, April 5

In the second game of the week at Spring Woods, the JV Spartans once again came in strong with a 15-3 victory. The Spartans got on the board in the top of the second inning when William Coates singled scoring one run, Jack Sullivan hit a sacrifice fly scoring one run, and Ranes Denman tripled, scoring two runs. Doubles by Cole Youngblood and Levi Lease and walks by Sullivan and Peter Vescovo helped Stratford extend their early lead in the third. The Spartans continued to pile on the runs through 5 innings, amassing nine hits in the game with Coates, Lease, Youngblood, Luke Tamez, Anthony Castillo, Sullivan, Gavin Mundwiller, Denmanand Jack McAfee each collecting one hit. Defensively, Matthew de Jager started on the mound, surrendering no hits, no runs, and striking out three. Jackson Golden and Brandon Phillips made quick work of innings 2 and 3 respectively, each with 3 batters up, 3 down. Golden threw 2 strikeouts and Phillips had 3 Ks. Zach Christie and Cody Hanlen came in for innings 4 and 5 in relief, with Christie striking out one and Hanlen striking out 2. Once again, a total of 11 strikeouts for this dominating pitching staff!

 

The JV Spartans will continue District play this week on Tuesday, April 9 at the Backyard at 4 pm against Cy Ridge and then again Friday, April 12 at 4 pm at Cy Ridge High School. Come cheer on your Stratford Spartans!
