The Spartans walked away 1-1 from two District games this past week against Jersey Village and Cy Fair. They are elevating their level of play and expect two more conference wins this week!

vs. Jersey Village – Win (8-2)

Stratford took the lead early last Tuesday against Jersey Village and never looked back. The Spartans got on the board in the first inning when Gwyn Katterhenry doubled, scoring one run, followed by a ground ball by Allison Hibbettsscoring a second run. The Spartans added 4 more to the board in the second inning when Caroline Chamberlain singled and Jersey Village made a couple of errors combined with back-to-back hits by Katterhenry and Hibbetts. The Spartans kept the Falcons scoreless through 4 innings, giving up one run each in the 5th and 6th innings. Stratford added a couple more to their lead when Jessica Youngblood doubled followed by another single by Chamberlain, scoring Youngblood in the 6th, followed by singles by Chamberlain and Piercy and lastly by a double by Aashna Kapoor to score one in the 7th. The Spartans' bats were HOT that night: Chamberlain going 3-4, Hibbetts going 2-3, and Katterhenry and Youngblood both going 2-4. Katterhenry earned the win for the Spartans, throwing a complete game, allowing 5 hits and 2 ERs while striking out 7.

Offensive Highlights (14 Hits total):

Singles: Hibbetts, Chamberlain (3), Katterhenry, Youngblood, Esparza, Piercy, E. McGuire, Yslas

Doubles: Kapoor, Katterhenry, Youngblood

Triples: Hibbetts

Defensive Highlights:

Katterhenry: 7IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 7K

There was a fantastic diving catch by Yslas at shortstop to save a couple of runs!

vs. Cy Fair – Loss (0-5)

Unfortunately, we were unable to give Coach Scott a win on her birthday but plan to make it up next week! The Spartans faced the Cy Fair Bobcats, currently in 2nd place in District on Friday. Cy Fair got on the board first with 2 runs in the first inning. The game was intense, a pitchers' battle, with each team scoreless in innings 2, 3, and 4. Cy Fair added 3 runs to their lead in the 5th after a walk and a perfectly placed bunt, setting up Cy Fair’s 3-hole batter who tagged a 3-run bomb that actually dented their scoreboard, followed by another two scoreless innings in the 6th and 7th.

Offense for the Spartans was weak, only 3 hits on the night, 2 singles by Allison Hibbetts and a single by Elizabeth McGuire. There were a lot of positive take-aways for the night. The defense is looking better and better with every game. Gwyn Katterhenry took the loss for the Spartans, throwing a complete game, allowing 5 hits and 3 ER while striking out 3.

Offensive Highlights (3 Hits total):

Singles: E. McGuire, Hibbetts (2)

Defensive Highlights:

Katterhenry: 6IP, 5H, 5R, 3ER, 2BB, 3K
