Six Stratford athletes traveled to Austin over the weekend to compete in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas. Texas Relays is the second-largest track meet in the U.S, and divisions include high school, college, and professional. Qualification standards are very high and participation is by acceptance only.
Kenneth Owen cleared 6-8 in the High Jump and made the podium with his 3rd-place result. He was the highest-placing jumper from Texas, and he inked his signature on the Winner's Wall.
Niamh Collins finished 13th in the girls' 1600m, and her time of 5:06.18 was the fastest she has ever ran while wearing a Stratford uniform. The level of competition was off the charts with most of the state’s top 1600m runners in the race.
Boys Distance Medley Relay (Daylan Rushing, Jake Rodriguez, Andrew Hopkins, Ben Pearce) - With two runners out this weekend that were on our recent 10:22.95 school-record relay team, two others filled in nicely at Texas Relays and the boys fought their way to a gutsy 5th place finish out of 18 teams from Texas, California, and Oklahoma. Their time of 10:29.58 in Austin once again eclipsed the Stratford DMR school record of 10:30.20 that stood before this season started.
