The Spartans walked away 1-1 from two District games this past week against Cy Ridge and Memorial. They hosted over 50 young SBMSA softball players on Friday night for SBMSA Night at Stratford vs Memorial. They also raised $1,000 for a fellow Spring Woods Varsity Softball player who recently lost her mother in a tragic car accident. Both JV and Varsity teams also banned together to volunteer as part of Stratford’s Big Day on Saturday.

vs. Cy Ridge – Win (10-7)

The Stratford Varsity Lady Spartans were triumphant over Cy Ridge last Tuesday. The Spartans got on the board early after Aashna Kapoor singled, Elizabeth McGuire drew a walk, Allison Hibbetts got an RBI on an error, and Gwyn Katterhenry tripled scoring two more. Jessica Youngblood grounded out and earned an RBI to make the score 4-0 going into the bottom of the 1st inning. Cy Ridge answered back with one run. Both teams were scoreless in the 2nd inning, Stratford added in the 3rd after Hibbetts doubled, Katterhenry singled,  and Youngblood singled scoring two more runs. Cy Ridge scored 3 in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 6-4. McGuire singled and scored on an error in the 4th. Cy Ridge tied it up in the bottom of the 4th inning, 7-7. The score remained the same until the top of the 7th inning when Hibbetts hit a solo home run, Katterhenry drew a walk, Youngblood singled, and Isabela Sanchez singled, scoring 2, a third run scored on an error. Katterhenry, Youngblood, and Hibbetts each collected two hits for the Spartans. Katterhenry started for the Spartans giving up 0 hits and striking out 6. Kapoor earned the win for the Spartans, giving up 0 runs.

vs. Memorial – Loss (2-12)

The Stratford Varsity Lady Spartans had trouble keeping up with Memorial, suffering a 5-inning loss on Friday. The highlight was a 2-run homerun by Allison Hibbetts in the 1st inning, a double to the fence by Jessica Youngblood, and a single by Elizabeth McGuire. The Spartans' bats were actually hot, but so many balls were hit directly to Memorial players and into some straight up lucky plays! The Spartans are looking forward to answering back in April when they meet again.
