Stratford JV Spartans vs. Cy Fair JV Bobcats – Monday, March 11

GAME ONE
The JV Spartans opened District play on Monday of Spring Break with a double-header versus a strong Cy Fair JV team. Both games proved to be defensive battles with excellent pitching and solid work in the field. In the first game, Levi Lease started and showed his strength on the hill, ultimately earning the win with 3 strikeouts and surrendering only 5 hits over 4 1/3 innings. Zach Christie finished the game strong on the mound and collected the save.

The Spartans' offense got started in the top of the third when Levi Lease doubled and Will Tacker followed up with another double to drive in the first run of the game. Jack McAfee continued the rally with a single to bring in another run, tying the game up 2-2. Then in the top of the fourth, Cody Hanlen got on base and proceeded to steal second and third, putting him in prime scoring position for when Lease doubled again, bringing in the run and giving the Spartans the lead and ultimately the win at 3-2.

GAME TWO
The second game of the double-header against the JV Bobcats was yet another defensive face-off, with the Spartans playing to a 0-0 tie by the bottom of the seventh. Pacer Daniel as starting pitcher proved to be dominant on the mound, striking out 6 and allowing only one hit and zero runs over 5 and 2/3 innings. Will Tacker finished off the game as pitcher, hanging onto the tie with no hits and 3 strikeouts.

The Stratford defense also showed their strength and were sure-handed the whole game, not committing a single error and turning 2 double plays in the infield. Chris Johnson was a force as catcher, making the most plays for the Spartans with 12. Daniel and Johnson also collected the only hits of the game for the Spartans. Overall, Monday’s double-header was a very strong start of District play for the Stratford JV Team with one win and one tie against a solid Cy Fair team.

The JV Spartans will take the field again this Tuesday, March 19 at the Backyard at 4 pm against Cy Creek and then again Friday, March 22 at 4 pm at Cy Creek High School. Come cheer on your Spartans!
