SHS vs. SWHS 2/28/24

The JV Lady Spartans Soccer Team traveled to Spring Woods High school on a chilly and windy Wednesday, February 28th. The girls applied pressure from the get-go and made several attempts to score, but it wasn’t until 19 mins left on the clock that Maddison Gallerano won the ball at the 20 yard line and passed to Kaija Sola, who crossed the ball to Bella Saavedra. She was able to kick the ball over the goal keeper’s head where Ella Bui, who was standing in the box, made sure it was in to count for a goal! SHS 1 - SWHS 0. It was definitely a nice team effort! A few minutes later, after a couple of nice corners by Camille Warren that were cleared by the defense, Warren was able to make a beautiful cross to Lola Poolerwho was ready and waiting in front of the goal to put in goal #2. SHS 2 - SWHS 0. At 10:59, Claire Lamon won the ball and passed to Buiwho passed to Cate Shofner, who sent a nice through ball to Elizabeth Byrd before she put it in for another goal. SHS 3 - SWHS 0. For the final 10 minutes, all SHS players had opportunities to touch the ball in the beautiful display of keep-away. With only 45 seconds left in the first half, Lily Terveen threw in the ball to Bui, who passed to Sola, who sent a nice through ball to Trysta Truong to beat the Tigers' defenders and score our 4th goal before the end of the half. SHS 4 - SWHS 0.

The girls started the second half with great passing, movement, and communication. A throw-in by Morgan Long reached Bryd, who laid it back to Sola with a give-and-go between Long and Byrd. Byrd took a great shot that sailed in for the first goal of the second half. SHS 5 - SWHS 0. The Tigers didn't have very many chances to cross midfield, thanks to great defense by all our defenders, Amirlyn Duhon, Sylvia Castaneda, Julia Wolf, TerveenLamonWarren, and goalie Sophia Schulz. With 28 mins left on the clock, Warren kicked the ball up the field to Sola, who laid it back to Bui, whose shot was deflected off of their defense but reached Byrd to put it in the goal again for a HAT TRICK!! SHS 6 - SW 0. As the time dwindled down, Bui had several goal attempts that were saved by the Tigers' goalkeeper. The Spartans took the last bit of time to continue to display great ball movement and play keep-away until the final buzzer. Final score SHS 6 - SW 0.

SHS vs. Cy Ridge 3/2/24

The JV Lady Spartans Soccer Team hosted Cy Ridge High School on Saturday, March 2nd. This was one of those games that you felt like we couldn't buy a goal. Attempt after attempt would hit the post, go just wide, deflect off the defender, roll in front of the goal with no one getting a foot on it, or the goalie would make a great save. It became a little bit of a joke that we couldn't put it into the net. Finally with 27 min left, the door was cracked open with our first goal. Morgan Long won the ball in the back and laid it across to Claire Lamon, who continued to move the ball across the back to Lily TeveenTerveen sent the ball one more time across the back to Camille Warren, who did a give-and-go with Madison GalleranoWarren ran the ball to the end line before she crossed the ball into the box where Kaija Sola ran onto it and punched it into the back of the net. SHS 1 - CRHS - 0. For the next 11 minutes the drought stayed with us. Amazing passing, teamwork, not to mention countless shots by Ella BuiElizabeth ByrdNicole Abbey, and Trysta Truong still found us without another goal. At the 7 minute mark, Lamon won the ball in the back and played it into the middle to Gallerano, who laid it out wide to Warren. She passed it up top to Abbey, and it squirted through the defender's legs,  leaving Abbey in a one-on-one with the goalie that she finished in style. SHS 2 - CRHS 0. A few minutes later, Terveen dribbled up finding Warren in between 2 defenders with a great pass. Warren turned and found Byrd out wide. She beat her defender, then nailed the ball into the net to make it SHS 3 - CRHS 0. The girls, fueled with excitement, stole the ball off the kick off. Warren played the ball into the middle to Bui, who laid it out wide to Truong. She centered it into Abbey, who took a shot on goal. The ball deflected off the defender and bounced past the goalie for another goal. SHS 4 - CRHS 0.

The girls started the 2nd half with the door wide open. 2 min in, Long got the ball and laid it inside to Lola Pooler. She deflected it to Sola, who was able to finish the ball to make it SHS 5 - CRHS 0. With an early goal, the girls dropped into a little bit of keep-away for the next 10 min. At the 24 min mark, they got the go-ahead to attack. They jumped on it when Truong dribbled down the line and found Sola in the middle who found Warren on the overlapping run. She sent a beautiful cross into the box to Long waiting on the back post, where she headed it in for another Spartan goal. SHS 6 - CRHS 0. Some corners, shots and more keep-away took some time off the clock before the girls attacked again. With 16 min left, Bui took a short corner kick that she laid inside to Byrdwho dropped it back to BuiBui found a gap between defenders and took a shot that snuck past everyone and found the back of the net. SHS 7 - CRHS 0. Our final goal came with 9 min left in the game. Bui played a through ball to Long running out wide. She chased it down and then cut it back, where she laid it back to Bui. She took another great shot that snuck past the goalie again, but it hit off the post. Thankfully Byrd did her job and followed the shot, so she was there to crush it into the back of the net to make the final score SHS 8 - CRHS 0.
