SHS vs. Cy Creek HS 2/20/24

On Tuesday, February 20th the JV Lady Spartans traveled to Cy Creek High School. It was a beautiful evening for soccer. The girls started off the game with countless passing opportunities and continuous fluid movement on and off the ball. Once again it didn't take the girls long to find the back of the net. At 32 minutes in, Trysta Truong passed to Ella Bui, who laid the ball to Camille Warrenwho took it down the field to score our first goal. SHS 1 - CCHS 0. Six minutes later, Nicole Abbey fought off a Cy Creek defender and passed to Elizabeth Bryd, who shot and scored! SHS 2 - CCHS 0. With 20 minutes on the clock, Lily Terveen took a free kick that reached Warren, who laid it to Bui and back to Warren, who took another great shot on goal. SHS 3 - CCHS 0. The rest of the first half the JV Lady Spartans displayed good effort and teamwork by playing a great game of keep-away.

As soon as the whistle blew for the second half, Stratford pressed Cy Creek. Right away Bella Saavedra had a couple of attempts at goal, but it wasn’t until 31:25 when Truong found Abbey, who crossed to Saavedra, that Saavedra was able to slip the ball in past the goalie. SHS 4 - CCHS 0. Five minutes later, Julia Wolf passed to Morgan Long, who laid it to Bui with a nice cross to Cate Shofner to score her 1st goal of the season and the fifth goal of the night for the Spartans. SHS 5 - CCHS 0. With 15 minutes to go, Abbey passed to Truong, who crossed the ball to Lola Pooler, who was also able to score her first goal of the season! SHS 6 - CCHS 0. In the final 3 minutes, Sylvia Castaneda made several attempts toward the goal. Finally her hard work paid off as she found a pass to Pooler, whose shot on goal was deflected off the goalie, but Bui was there to follow up and score our final goal of the game! SHS 7 - CCHS 0.

SHS vs. Northbrook HS 2/23/24

On Friday, February 23rd the JV Lady Spartans hosted Northbrook at home. Another beautiful evening made for a nice night of soccer. Knowing that you are supposed to win a game can always be a challenge to perform at your best level, but the girls were ready for the task ahead and got the job done. They took the first few minutes to pass the ball around and settle in. After 3 minutes, they found their way to the goal. A nice through ball from Elizabeth Byrd to Cate Shofner, who ran it down to the end line before crossing a perfect ball to Ella Bui's feet to allow her to finish it for our first goal. SHS 1 - NHS 0. On the kick off, our girls jumped on it. They sent the ball out wide to Trysta Truong, who sent a beautiful cross into Isabella Saavedra. She laid the ball back to Bui, who took a shot to try and find her second goal of the day, but it sailed just over. For the next 5 minutes, the girls moved the ball around and had a couple of attempts on goal that went just wide. Shofner intercepted a goal kick, which she then dribbled at the goal where she was able to slide it in past the goalie for a goal. SHS 2 - NHS - 0. With 18 minutes left, Shofner once again intercepted a goal kick. She slid the ball into Byrd, who did a give-and-go with Bui before Byrd dribbled it through the defenders to score us another goal. SHS 3 - NHS - 0. For the last 15 minutes of the half, the girls played some great keep-away, resulting in a 3-0 score at halftime.

The girls continued their game of keep-away for the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. With 29 minutes left, Bui got the ball and passed it to Madison Gallerano, who dribbled up and then passed to Morgan Long, who did a give-and-go with Amrylin DuhonLong then dribbled down the sideline and had a nice cross. The defense headed the ball out, but Byrd was there to head it back over the defenders to a running Saavedrawho was able to touch it by the goalie for a goal. SHS 4 - NHS 0. Another 10 minutes of keep-away saw everyone touch the ball and show off lots of fun moves. With 20 minutes left, Gallerano won the ball off a clearance from the defense. She laid the ball out wide to Sylvia Castaneda, who dribbled down the sideline and sent the perfect cross into the box to find a ready and waiting Duhon, who punched it in for her first goal of the season and another goal for the Spartans. SHS 5 - NHS 0. On the kick-off, Lily Terveen was able to win the ball back. She laid the ball in the out wide to Truongwho then found Byrd in the middle. Byrd made a nice turn before she sent another great through ball to Julia WolfWolf outran the defenders before she crushed the ball past the goalie for her first goal of the season. SHS 6 - NHS 0. At the 14 minute mark, Wolf pulled the ball back before laying it off to Terveen, who then passed it to Byrd. She once again turned and sent a great through ball to Lola PoolerPooler chased it down, but her shot went just wide. In the span of 3 minutes, Castaneda made 3 or 4 attempts at attacking the goal, but she just couldn't break loose. Finally, at the 9 minute mark, her chance came. She hustled to beat the defender to a through ball. Once she beat the defender, she didn't waste any time dribbling straight at the goal before she cranked it in for her first goal of the season. SHS 7 - NHS 0. NHS saw their one and only chance at goal off of a misplaced pass backwards. As the chase was on to the ball,  SHS goalie, Sophia Schulz, came running out to make the forward push the ball wide to ensure the shut-out, allowing the final score to be 7 - 0.
