JV Baseball Starts the Season 4-1

vs. Bridgeland

The 2024 Stratford JV Baseball Team started the season off strong defeating Bridgeland 12-3. Ranes Denman got the start and the win for Stratford, giving up five hits and two runs (one earned), striking out five, and giving up no walks. Carsten Vasut came in relief, tossing 1 inning of shutout ball. The offense was led by Will Tacker with four singles in four at-bats. Brandon Phillips (3-3, double, 2 RBIs), Sammy Salas (2-3, 3 RBIs), and Jackson Fulweber (1-2, 2 RBIs) also helped to drive in runs, with Gavin Mundwiller contributing with a single.

 

TOURNAMENT

vs. Manvel

The Spartans traveled to Brazoswood to take on Manvel for the first tournament of the season. Zach Christie got the start, giving up one hit and zero runs over 3 innings with two strikeouts. Levi LeaseWilliam Coates, and Carsten Vasut came in for relief. Levi Lease, Matthew de Jager, Will Tacker, and Lucas Dominguez each got one hit for the Spartans. Jack Sullivan stole 2 bases and drove in one run. Stratford defeated Manvel 6-5.

 

vs. Strake Jesuit

In the second game of the tournament, the Stratford JV Spartans took on a strong Strake Jesuit team. The Spartans were led by Zach Christiewho drove in seven runs with three hits. The Spartans amassed 12 hits in the game: Jack Sullivan and Ryan Lamon each collected multiple hits for the Spartans. Sammy Salas, Luke Tamez, Nick Gioco, and Cody Hanlen also contributed with hits. Nick Gioco earned the win at the mound, and Brandon Phillips came in for relief. Stratford dominated Strake Jesuit JV Green 16-7.

 

vs. Santa Fe

In the third game, Santa Fe handed the Spartans their first loss of the season, 13-4. Cole Youngblood got the start, with Jackson Fulweber and Luke Tamez coming in to finish the game. The offense was led by Will Tackerleading Stratford with 2 hits in 3 at-bats. Levi Lease and Luke Tamez each drove in one run. Jack McAfeeCarsten Vasutand Pacer Daniel also added hits for Stratford.

 

vs. Katy Tompkins

The bats came alive in the 4th game with Stratford defeating Katy Tompkins JV, 13-4. Stratford tallied 8 hits in the game with Brandon Phillips (2-2, RBI), Ranes Denman (2-3,double, 2 RBIs), Sammy Salas (2-4, RBI), Jack Sullivan (1-2, RBI), and Zach Christie (1-3, double, 2 RBIs) contributing a monster hit to the fence. Peter Vescovo drew 3 walks, scoring twice. Ranes Denman earned the win for Stratford, giving up zero hits and 4 runs (zero earned) over 2 innings. Will Tacker came in for relief with 3 K’s in 2 innings.
