SHS vs. JVHS 2/13/24

On February 13th the JV Lady Spartans traveled to Jersey Village High School for their 7th District game. Once again, the girls didn't waste any time. Five minutes into the game, Ella Bui made the first goal off a beautiful shot from 20 yards out. SHS-1 - JVHS-0. The girls immediately fell into a game of keep-away for the next 10 minutes. Everyone touched the ball, showing off skills, speed, and teamwork. At the 21 minute mark, the girls got the go-ahead that they could score again. Camille Warren was fed a great pass before she fired off a one-touch shot to score our 2nd goal. SHS-2 - JVHS-0. Another 10 minute round of keep-away took place before we once again got the go-ahead to score. Claire Lamon didn't waste any time. She got the ball in the back and dribbled up the field,  where she took a fantastic shot from 25 yards out to find the upper part of the net for our 3rd goal. SHS-3 - JVHS-0. We continued to attack for the last 5 minutes of the game. A few attempts by Nicole Abbey and Elizabeth Bryd were blocked by the JVHS goalie. Our continuous pressure was finally rewarded. With 30 seconds left in the half, Meredith Cunningham kicked a high ball toward the goal that bounced over the goalie’s head and into the goal! SHS-4 - JVHS-0

The girls started the 2nd half off hot and ready to dominate. About 5 minutes in, Warren reached Abbey, whose shot was deflected off a JVHS defender. Morgan Long was ready and waiting in the box,  allowing her to pound the ball into the net for a goal. SHS-5 - JVHS-0. For the next 15 minutes the girls played some more keep-away. We sprinkled in a few shots here and there. Isabella Saavadera did a give-and-go with Byrd and headed for the goal, but the defense was able to clear it out. A couple more attempts by Abbey were stopped by the goalie. With about 15 minutes left, the girls got serious about scoring again. Bui took a shot that was punched up by the goalie, but the power of Bui's shot was too much for her and the momentum carried it past her into the net. SHS-6 - JVHS-0. The final goal of the game came about 7 minutes later with a great pass from Sylvia Casteneda into the middle at Bui's feet, and then she fed a great ball into Kaija Solawho was able to finish it to make the final score SHS-7 - JVHS-0.

This game was the end of their first round of District play. The JV Lady Spartans hope to keep up the momentum, remain undefeated, and retain their first place position in District during the 2nd round of play.

Stratford saw another strong start in the second half. An attempt by Shofner was caught by the goalie and a corner by Byrd was almost headed in by Abbey. A free kick by CFHS was headed out by Maddison Gallerano to keep CFHS from any points on the board. A couple of runs between BrydSola, and Meredith Cunningham were just slightly off target. At the 16 minute mark,  our goalkeeper Sophia Schulz saved a free kick by CFHS. A few minutes later, good communication and passing between our backline moved the ball up the field to Bui, who passed to Abbey to score our 4th goal. SHS 4 - CFHS 0. Stratford continued to maintain possession of the ball and pressure the Bobcats. Bui found Abbey again to score goal #5 with 10 minutes left on the clock. SHS 5 - CFHS 0.
