Over the past two weeks, the Stratford Boys Freshman A Basketball Team have continued their strong push in District play, going 3-1 in their last four games.

vs. Northbrook

On January 24, the Freshman A Spartans faced off against Northbrook and put together a strong all-around effort. After taking a 26-15 halftime lead, the Spartans used the inside size of Ryan White and Connor Wohlfahrt to dominate Northbrook 21-6 in the third quarter. Finishing strong in the 4th, the Spartans came away with a victory of 61-29. Against Northbrook, the Spartans were led in scoring by Jackie Hope (12), Gabe Moctezuma (11), and Ryan White (10).

Following the victory against Northbrook, the Freshman A Spartans put together another dominant game against Spring Woods. Swarming the Tigers on defense and getting contributions from all players, Stratford took down Spring Woods with a final of 50-8. The Spartans had a balanced attack against Spring Woods, with 8 players scoring, led by Jackie Hope (11), Fran Blanco (7), and Asa Rigo (7).

This past week, the Freshman A Spartans started the week with a rematch against Cy Ridge, against whom the Spartans had previously sweated out a 2-point victory in early January. In this away match, the Rams proved to be too much for the Spartans, and though they put together a 20-point 4th quarter to try to overcome a sizeable deficit, the Spartans were taken down by Cy Ridge 62-53. The Spartans had 9 players score against Cy Ridge, led by Teagan Tedrow (18), Jackie Hope (8), Jackson Lisle (6), and Connor Wohlfahrt (6).

vs. Memorial

This past Saturday, the Freshman A Spartans got back into the winning column in their home rematch against Memorial. The Spartans overcame a slow first half and a 23-20 deficit at halftime to come back in the second half, taking down Memorial 45-40. John Briggs and Jackie Hope catalyzed the comeback with aggressive all-around play and good shooting and finishing at the basket. Against Memorial, the Spartans were led in scoring by Jackie Hope (16), John Briggs (8), and Teagan Tedrow (8).

The Freshman A Spartans now sit at 18-6 on the season, and 8-2 in District. The team faces off this week on Wednesday against Jersey Village (away at 4 pm) in an attempt to avenge a 3-point loss in January. On Saturday, the team will get their chance to knock off Cy Fair at home at 9 am. Go Spartans!
