Stratford 46 vs. Northbrook 14

The Spartans hosted their District mates, the Northbrook Raiders,  on Wednesday afternoon. The game was a runaway from start to finish.

All the girls played well, as defense and ball movement were on display. The first quarter scoring was done by Sophia Prejean, who hit a long three to go with a nice put-back under the basket. Allie Moss connected twice, and Claire Kadane added a layup as well. The defense gave up a couple baskets, but the rout was on. 11-4 Spartans.

The second quarter was more of the same. Zoe Thompson got two nice steals and drove to the hoop for two buckets. Shelby Thibodeaux also got a put-back basket and went to the line to add a free throw. Stella Weiss drove the lane to get one to go down as well. Allie grabbed two rebounds and got four more points off quick put-backs. At halftime, it was Stratford 24-8

The third really put things away. The defense only gave a long three,  and the points kept coming for the Spartans. Brooke Sponsel worked hard down low and got two scores. Zoe added another bucket off a steal. Claire got a nice jumper and a great move to the basket for another. Sophia continued her dominance of the paint, getting a basket and going to the line twice to add two free throws.

The fourth quarter saw defensive efforts by Madeline John, Phoebe Heidel, Ginger Koss, Abigail Williams, and Aniyah CunninghamEveryone did a good job of denying anything the Raiders wanted to do. The scoring finished up with Shelby getting to the line twice for two more free throws, and Stella relentlessly driving the lane to get two baskets and a free throw. The final score was Stratford 48 - Northbrook 14.

Stratford 50 vs. Spring Woods 8

On Saturday morning, the girls traveled to Spring Woods High School to take on the Tigers for the third time this year. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the result would be much the same.

Claire Kadane got things going off the tip with a layup. She would add another basket and get to the line twice for two more points. Stella Weiss went to work with her signature drive right into traffic. She, as usual, got the ball down in the basket twice and went to the line for one more. Sophia Prejean also added a bucket and a free throw. The defense was good with Shelby Thibodeaux grabbing rebounds and Allie Moss getting a couple of  steals. Sophia had her usual blocks and rebounds, and all the girls played well. Surprisingly, the Tigers were able to get off a few good shots and the first quarter ended 14-6.

The second quarter was when the game got out of hand for Spring Woods. The defense shut down all scoring opportunities for the Tigers, and they resorted to long bombs that did not hit the mark. Zoe Thompson, Aniyah Cunningham, and Madeline John took care of any activity on the perimeter. Abigail Williams, Ginger Koss, Phoebe Heidel, and Brooke Sponsel handled the wings and post area with ease. Brooke added a basket. Claire got to the line twice to add a couple points, and Shelby went down low to get a bucket as well. The scoring frenzy came from Sophia, who went off for 11 points for the quarter. She was able to get to the line, hit jumpers and layups, and even dropped a long three. The game was well in hand at half, 31- 8.

The Spartans did not give up a point the entire second half to the Tigers. The entire team deserves a tip of the hat for that kind of effort. The third and fourth quarters the girls moved the ball beautifully and really worked on their set plays. Zoe added six points using her speed and quick hands. Shelby racked up the rebounds and got three more buckets and a free throw. Abigail got on the scoring train as well with a basket in the third and two more in the fourth. Coach Dixon called off the dogs with about three minutes left having Allie, Clarie, and Sophia run out the clock using a triangle up top and passing away the remaining time. It was time for king cake for the team to celebrate another win. Stratford 50 - Spring Woods 8.
